I need a bike picked up from Portland. It’s not boxed.

What courier service will do that?

    They need it boxed unfortunately.

They’ll send a box to the seller, is that not an option?

Is shipping unboxed not just asking for it to turn up a bit shagged? You also wouldn’t have any comeback to claim for damage

    I’m going to ask him.

He was a Collection Only though.

The bike is a bit shagged anyway. I want it because it has all its original bits and transfers. I’m not worried if it picks up another mark or two.

Engage a local bike shop to help you out?

    Yes, done this before.

Call the seller’s LBS and ask if they’ll check it over and box it up, then you arrange courier.

Paid £20 or so for their trouble. Easily covered by the savings on a “collect only” item.

Is this Portland in the US though?

The last thread on that was awesome – lawyers at the ready!

Avoid Paisley Freight (and sister company bikedelivery.co.uk) at all costs.
I ended up taking them to court (and won :-). Well, they backed down and settled the day before the case) over several no-show ‘collections’ PITA

Just highlight that the bike will not be boxed.

How bout a cycle courier? They’d probably prefer it unboxed, then they can ride it to it’s destination.

I doubt it’s that rideable. (Considered doing that myself)

    About 660 miles. 🙂

Mentioned above Shiply.com put up what ya got (including a picture I think) and you will get quotes. Choose based on price / reviews. Give it a couple of days for quotes to come in. Someone on there sorted a mattress for me even came and wrapped it.

I’m guessing the person selling it has no interest in boxing it up or having any hassle if the buyer decides they are not happy with it once it arrives hence why they advertised it as collection only

Another option is to put up a post asking a local STW member if they would help out for a fee, obviously it would need to be a well known/trusted member to do this

I sold a bike last week as collection only. Buyer arranged a Shipley courier and I popped into Halfords and asked for one of their old bike boxes which they kindly supplied me. Wasn’t much of a hassle.

Halfords and asked for one of their old bike boxes

Our local Halfords are asking £10 to supply empty bike boxes! We give ours away for free

Thanks for putting me on to Shiply.

Got some horrendous quotes around the £450 mark!

But got a more reasonable one which I have accepted.
