What you all been up to this weekend?
Still playing in the new to us local woods today.
13 miles with over 1000 meteres of descending and we’ve still not ridden all the trails in there.
    I like my new playground.

Annoyingly I spent more time fixing a broken bike…

Still managed a local ride of Darn Path and Keir Woods, plus a walk along the river. Nice to be out again.

Starting as I mean to go, exploring from our new digs in Braco.

Findhu glen a squashy mess, will revisit again if we get a heatwave this year!

The next glen (Glean Ghoinean) connected Glen Artney and St Fillans. Perfect, remote gravel tracks through a surprisingly mountainous glen with an EXTREMELY fast and loose descent. Just a shame about the 1km trackless bog in the middle! Tracks don’t quite connect…

I went through there 10 years again. I’ve not dared since. 😱

Yeah, there is a single dotted line shown but the gravel bike demands double lines on the map as a minimum! Tracks are good enough now to merit the short hike-a-bike

A windy hack out over Deerplay (Rossendale) and a nice coffee at siphon in Rawtenstal on the way around.

Also the first proper ride out with the new UB oval chain ring, the verdict, a smoother pull up the climbs and a smile on my face as I’m now one gear down on my hack out ride.

I went a wee bit further afield for the first time in ages. Couple of big descents out Ballater way.
Heartbreak Ridge is totally blown out now…sooo rough.

Another 35 miles and 3500ft around the Purbecks with a sausage roll at Worth and a Beer and Ice Cream at Swanage thought I’d take the Geometron which was nice, setting off and finding my Reverb AXS battery was flat, less so.

Seriously stinging blustery hail showers around Hebden Bridge. A no-frills gravelly blast around the tops and home for hot soup. Where did spring go?

Heading out shortly in the wind, been out with the dog this morning and despite the high winds for a week still a lot of mud and slop about.

Which probably means a bike clean this afternoon

Cold and sunny descended into rain, but lovely to be out and amazing how many other riders there were. I would say 20:1 riders to cars!

    Someone had an oops…

Ate loads yesterday and didn’t ride. Today I did a proper old school ride through the woods opposite Cwmcarn, around Mynydd Islwyn and then back via the Ridgeway and down into Bedwas.

Found some fascinating old green lanes, old stone farmhouses and mills and a lovely little old stone bridge over the Ebbw River. Little glimpses of the pre-industrial Valleys, hemmed in by dual carriageways and industrial estates.

Also rode through a steep sided valley with a decent sized roaring stream in it, which opened out into a flat playing field area minus the stream. It flowed into a boggy section and soaked away somewhere underground. Cool geology.

I finally got outside, yay! 100k on the road, should have been 100mi but the wind had me thinking better of the second loop of my figure 8 by the mid way point.
Felt like a cop-out at the time but over the next half hour the wind moved to ensure that I had a head cross all the way home instead so even the flat lands were hard work. In hindsight the right decision, Kidstones and Park rash would have left me wanting a proper café stop or the sag waggon, neither being an option really.
    But I got outside!

Had a cracking afternoon ride, wind wasn’t as bad as first thought and I found a few links to places I wanted to be able to join up. Very little road action. Plenty mud but mostly sticky rather than sloppy. Trashed the bottom bracket finally, got to find a new one now.

Added 25% to my last post COVID outdoor ride…a whole 2.5 miles this time. Haha. And it was ace…sideways rain, wind and mud and you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, as I was just happy to be out.

(Grrrr…that labnol site crops the pictures. Oh well).

Not much riding this weekend apart from a look at the new jumps some of my friends built.

That bike rafting looks pretty epic!

Lots of trees down after the storms.

5 big trees down after the storms

    Tree down!

And lots of logging to get rid of a few more

    Not as muddy as expected

    Forestry work = mud

I feel there is some trail (re)building in my near future 😉

Did a family ride in the local woods. Almost all the trail features have been flattened – rubbish. But it was a nice day and we got a fun ride in. Then got close passed twice by making-progress cocks on the ride home – worse than rubbish.

What sort of cock thinks it is ok to close pass 11 and 13 old kids at +60mph in a village?! Cock.

Southern Spain, the whole place is a bike path :-).

I was watching some gcn+ ride adventure vid and thought I’d er actually ride the bike, oddly got lost on the planned route to a mountain but this tree 10 mins from home is probably more photogenic than the mountain I’d planned.
