I handle a lot of carbon fibre bikes so don’t wear my wedding band, but I would like to. Are there alternative materials that look good but will not risk marking the carbon fibre?

I  take it a “wedding band” is not a Kajagoogoo covers band for the evening do, but a wedding ring? 😉

Tape it or wear gloves?  does a smooth band really make a risk to CF frames but not to painted metal ones?

I came to say gloves. I was beaten to it but I’m still saying gloves.

I would have thought any material that was soft enough not to mark the outer layer of CF frames which is usually a lacquer coat I think,  would mark so easily in normal everyday use that the ring would look badly scratched very quickly

    A carbon fibre one?

If you have thick fingers, maybe a steerer tube offcut

Manlybands do some great wedding rings – particularly for outdoorsy people. A bonus is that they all come with a silicone “work” ring for doing things where wearing a metal ring would either be dangerous to you or to the object you’re working with.

Are you mimicking a w@nk on the top tubes of these delicate carbon frames?

It’s a wedding ring not a knuckle duster.

@st I hear you, but can’t risk it on a customers bike.

I’d just buy a small, wide, kids hair bobble and wrap it over the ring when I need to or take it off and put it on a chain.  I stopped wearing mine when I worked on subs and never went back to it.

soft radiused sterling silver band wearer, never an issue with carbon frames. I build plenty, 3m wrap them etc
I don’t have chubby fingers but the ring doesn’t touch anything i’m holding.

I wear my wedding band on chain round my neck. Have done 20 years. Work with tools etc and hate ring on while cycling.

I’ve seen carbon rings, so a carbon ring for work, wedding band for the rest of the time.

I wear a cheap silicone one when I’m doing anything that might result in injury due to my wedding ring, or damage to whatever I’m working with. As my wedding ring is titanium, I’m conscious that it’d be extremely hard to cut off if needed and it scratches things incredibly easily.

the rare times I’ve done a bit of indoor climbing I’ve wrapped my ring in electrician tape as I can’t get the thing off

I haven’t worn one for about 8 years. You don’t have to. Otherwise, if I were working on a bike I’d be wearing gloves anyway so I’d just do that.
