    Snuff, of course.
How could I miss that 🤦🏻‍♂️

However, one should also polish off all that nasty perlage to leave a perfectly smooth surface with which to admire one’s smug face!

I see there was a 39mm steel Master Moon but only in a silver dial or…. a meteorite dial! That’s pretty funky and I do very occasionally encounter Widmanstätten microstructures in my work. However, none on sale in Europe so far as I can see.

I’m on the look out for a moon phase watch, one that’s not so busy, and less spendy.

For that money I’d be going with an Orient Sun & Moon.

I believe the Orient isn’t a calendar display, its a day / night.

    I do like this …

Sent my Omega SMP off to Calibre for service today. I bought it in 1998 and got the 36mm, mid size. I always regretted this decision as my wrists arn’t particularly small at 7″ and I could have sized up.

I have a lot of time on my hands at present and can’t do too much following a bike accident. So been looking at watches, thinking of replacin the Omega. Was originally looking at the Longines Zulu time but ceramic bezel is quite glossy. Tried on the new burgundy Black Bay on 3 link bracelet which was nice. Also quite liked the Breitling Superocean Heritage in black with the rubber sttrap. They both seem like obvious choices and having been down that road before with the SMP I started looking at Vertex Aqualion.

I think you’re asking in the wrong place as there answer you will get is a white ceramic SMP 😂

Really enjoyed watching this, and I’m not a fan of Ed Sheeran so that surprised me

Who has more concurrent watches than bikes? For watches, I topped out at about 30 two years ago, with covid-powered frivolous spending. Now down to about 8, and happy to whiitle further. Bikes maximum (if we don’t count my overseas fieldwork fleet) maxed at 7 or 8, now down to 4: stainless steel road bike, alu tourer, steel full suss and titanium hardtail. Could I get down to 4 watches? I think so, if i get this big piece ive been droning about for yonks. Anyway, I can still keep the collecting habit going with hats, Lego and medieval weaponry.

Does anyone else find themselves adjusting the size of their watch bracelet through the day?
The micro-adjust gets slackened in the morning and then tightened during the day. Otherwise it’s either too tight in the morning or sloppy in the evening.

    Just me?

I got a couple of watches for my 30th. 14 years on the bracelets are exactly the same size.

    No micro adjusting for me.

It’s a diurnal thing not an annual thing.
    Maybe I’m odd.

Common for wrists to swell a little when warm,  hence clasps with on the fly micro adjust.

It’s the main reason I don’t wear bracelets much, always seem to 1/2 an adjustment from perfect.  My CW has a micro adjust and I’m always pissing about with it.

Today’s delivery is truly a thing of beauty. A rice paper dial with a textured body and strap.

A 1975  Seiko King Quartz catalogue model O8KQW

Advertised as accurate to 10 seconds a month back in the day!

@richpips, that looks lovely, and got me googling Seiko’s.  I’m still inclined to get an original orange Monster.

But gosh the new Alpinist GMT is a good looking thing:

It reminds me of the Carrera Glassbox, yet £4k cheaper:

I tried the Carrera on the othyer day; but with a white face, brown strap. Lovely watch.

Why has that Seiko got a male member on the dial?

Why has that jlc got a hunter case back? Why protect the back?

Orange monster is something that appeals to me too,  but the Starkey is cheaper and better.

I find the outright refusal to chat bikes in this remote corner of the forum hilarious. Oh well, I’m transiting through Bahrain so I thought the STWatch Massif deserved some SMPorn…

The Rolex stand is pretty comical, just row after row of iced out Daydates.

    20231014_193033

Which goes well with the gold jewellery on sale, minimum karat 21 and up to 24!

Ah…. But no.  Whilst I get the value of the homage to the Monster, it’s not a Monster.  I want an original to collect alongside the Samurai and Arnie.

So today’s wrist shot has a vintage vibe…..Dad’s 1967 Constellation just back from STS. New crystal, new crown, new rotor, new various bits and bobs and seals and screws and and and ….

and yes I know it’s showing tomorrows date but I forgot about the date adjust thing. IMG_4486

Just as a kind of side point to this thread, if anyone’s wanting their watch serviced I can heartily recommend Olivier at http://www.onatelier.co.uk

He did my speedmaster recently and it’s now in superb fettle, including a refresh/repair due to some water damage and sourced a genuine Omega hesalite crystal for me, which are getting v hard to find. Great communication & photos throughout the whole process.

Dad was a great singer, and performed with a couple of choirs and a choral society.  I’ve followed in his footsteps and now regularly need to perform in evening dress and various other formal get-ups, so I had the watch refurbed so that I can take him on stage with me. I think he’d appreciate it. Casino Royale notwithstanding, the divers don’t feel right, and the AT still feels a bit sporty especially in black tie.

Those Rolex above 🖕🏼are just ghastly things! 🤮 Not keen on the Omegas either, but that’s purely down to the skeletonised hands; like arrowhead hands I just don’t find them attractive to look at. The Seiko MM300 is one of the best looking watch faces ever, for me, followed by the Sword hands used by Sinn, and a few others.

I’ve more or less stopped considering getting another watch, I’m wearing my SPORK pretty much full time, and I’ve got my TAG Series 1000 running, and my RallyGraf, all of which are watches that are starting to appreciate in value, and I’ve got the cheap Heimdallr homage watches for when I don’t want to worry about damage. Or theft, for that matter.
Rather than spend a couple of £k on a watch, I’m going to get a pair of proper, custom-fit in-ear monitors made up, something that I know I’m going to be using very frequently, and both appreciate and benefit from a comfort and quality point of view.

That doesn’t mean that if a MM300 presented itself for an impossible to resist price I wouldn’t turn away! 😁

Speaking of the SPORK,  I adjusted it back on May 1, and I’ve been keeping an eye on its performance, and it’s been moving backwards and forwards between about fifty seconds fast or slow across the course of each month – currently it’s 14 seconds slow, so it’ll be interesting to see how it stands when the clocks change at the end of the month.

Certainly, being a bit less than a minute out either way is as close to perfect time-keeping as I’m concerned, tbh! 😁

@scapegoat that really is wonderful.  I’ve really become to appreciate the stories and emotional attachment behind peoples collections and yours is a brilliant one, restoring and wearing your dads timepiece in reflection of his past, what a fantastic reason to be wearing the watch.

    @theflyingox
, thanks for the link I noticed he does Seiko mods also, I might drop him an email as I’d like to get sapphire crystal in my Arnie one day.

@kneebiscuit could you please drop a note & pic to my email at kryton57 at sky dot com?   I’d love to have a look but can’t promise to buy immediately as I have a leaky roof repair or pay for.
