Current one has given up the ghost. New one must be good for shirts, muddy MTB gear including shoes. Single bloke so will use once or twice a week. Budget £500.
Thanks

Wasn't it Beko machines that were catching fire?

Not sure me think it is a different brand but could be wrong. Same manufacturer?

p/s: just checked one article mentioned the tumble dryer ...
Which?

Our LG did 12 years of daily use with toddlers and bike riding/mud. I replaced main bearing once through use.
The bearing started going again, plus needed new door seal.
Bought a new one half price from John Lewis.
5 years in an no problems.

How much does your local laundry service cost?

Coin op is a pain and time consuming.

Yeah, I always fall on the side of cheap, because I don't think a £250ish one lasts half as long as a £500 one. I am capable of repairing them myself though.

If you are of a mind to repair them as the get old, try to find out if your choice has replaceable bearings. A lot don't these days, buying a whole new drum assembly makes fixing them uneconomical.

Just got a new Bosch one after our 20 year old Bosch finally gave up the ghost.

They may not still have the same longevity, but it seemed competitive on price and features and there's a place near us that sells cosmetic seconds at quite good prices and with full warranty.

Two weeks in and it's been faultless so far. Haha.

Single bloke, I'd just get the cheapest that's a Best Buy with Which.

White Knight WM148V
Beko WTB941R4W

Or if you want a name
Bosch WAN24108GB

After being tempted with a £700 all singing all dancing LG I went for a Which Best Buy as suggested for £469. It's a Bosch detailed here:

Thanks all

Had an AEG for 11 years and was still fine when replaced by an integrated Siemens in a new kitchen. We went Siemens because the other fitted equipment in the old kitchen was Siemens and was 24 yrs old! Based on our experience Siemens are trading on a name and past quality. The touch screen washing machine sometimes chooses its own washes or beeps but does not change selection. except for the combi oven everything else is marginally better or worse than that.

I recommend AEG but cannot recommend modern Siemens.

My logic for the best part of my life has been basically the simplest Bosch or Miele appliance within price range. Has seemed to work for me, anyway.

Forty years and three Bosch, bought cheaper each time and all have been good washing machines with no repairs along the way.

We bought a Siemens just over 5 years ago. No touch screens, fancy user electronics. Just simple dial. It had a 5 year warranty and has been faultless.

It also does an 8kg wash at 40deg in 1 hour 10 minutes. Everything else we looked at was nigh on 3 hours.

We bought from a Euronics Centre, they offer lifetime labour warranty, you just pay for parts.

I was going to buy an AEG, we have a dryer that we had handed down and again that’s been faultless.

I would avoid Beko / Whirlpool out of principle as their attitude to fire safety is basically 'we don't give a shit'.

4.5 years in with a John Lewis 8kg one, it was under £400 and deals with a family of 4's almost daily washing no bother.
