If I was planning doing more touring I’d build up my old Inbred slotted 29er on big apples and some basic reliable kit.
An important aspect of a touring bike for me is not having to constantly worry about my 4K bike when parking it outside a pub or shop. A relatively cheap bike adds to the relaxation of a tour IMO.
And as for choosing a touring bike based on what it looks like in a picture on the internet, that’s the wankiest advice ever. I host a fair few warmshowers tourers, any properly used touring bike is never going to be pretty with all the useful crap that ends up attached to it. Leave the slammed stems and clean lines to the strava/keyboard warrior crew.
