A lot of people who say “my walking boots lasted 20 years blah blah” wear them 10 times a year on days out. For every day use you want a berghaus/karrimor/whatever leather boot for less than 100 quid and expect to get two or three years out of them with a bit of care.

I’d agree, I must have had those Berghaus Hillwalkers four years now (following a PSA on here for about £70). Still in great nick.
Could be perfect for OP, from what they said about their use case.
You can get the midsole replaced. I had that done to a pair of Meindle’s belonging to SWMBO. Full mid and outer sole unit and can’t tell the difference from factory.

Are they the old Brasher Hillmaster GTX remixed? I had a couple of pairs of those. They are high volume for my feet and the heel cups failed on the first pair. They were replaced under warranty and the second pair were rubbish in comparison. I use them for wobbling about in the ski resorts now but nothing else as they give me horrendous blisters.
I recently replaced a much loved and sadly lost in a house move pair of Meindl boots with a pair of Meindl German special forces leather goretex boots in brand new condition for £90! Exceptionally comfortable and have been a treat to wear on dog waking yomps around the local park to wear them in, 10 mile walks on the North Downs, not an epic swamp yet but lots of steep and slippery chalky bits, and a cracking bimble on the Pyg/Miners trail on Snowdon.
Ever tried Kevlar boots? Got the Naglev hiker, seem indestructible, stiff, wp, and soles can be replaced. Testing them since 2 years up here in the norwegian nature. Just the other week ordere replacement soles, inlay, etc from manufacturer.
Never again back to Salomon…
