Forget ‘you could buy a car for that’, classic tractor for price of a house.

I still find it odd to see these with glass in and no home fabricated frames.

    And

Did anyone else see this last week?

County Tractors, wot made the one in the BBC story, were made in the town I grew up in. The most interesting thing Fleet ever did. I remember the yard where they had shiny conversions parked up. <goes all misty eyed>

The old Redcar lifeboat tractor spotted outside Kirkleatham museum store. Also needs a quick squirt of WD40.

Heddington Traction Engine Rally last weekend, always a few interesting bits and bobs, and this tractor caught my eye, along with the item it towed…

It was actually driven to the event, and I can attest to the fact because I was sat outside the pub by the event entrance when it left and drove off down the lane. As did the Sherman tank they had at the event as well!

There were some interesting smaller tractors there as well…

@redthunder – any one in particular, or all of them? Actually, they’re all pretty cool; my best mate lives on what used to be the family farm, (they still own one ten acre field they rent out), but his dad used to have an actual Caterpillar track.layer, he reckons it was nearly twice the size of those two little Internationals!
He still regrets his dad getting rid of it.

The military one is a 1943 M4 High-speed artillery tractor – 18 tons, can do 35mph. Underneath is a shortened Sherman track system. The gun is a 1943 90mm Anti-aircraft gun, made by Chevrolet.

I shudder to think what the fuel bills are like for the tractor and the Sherman.

We were up in Northumberland a few weeks back. Popped into Northumberland Country Zoo and they have a little tractor museum.

    tractor

They also had one of these there (not my photo). Quite ingenious how it’s basically the same core chassis and engine just linked together.

    Articulated Fordson

As an aside my wife works in a junior school with a large rural community. The kids were making some model cars and testing them on ramps. One of the cars kept crashing. It was red and had bigger rear wheels and a cab over the back. So looked a bit like a tractor.

One of the farm kids mocked it for crashing by saying “That’s what you get with a Massey”. Properly made me laugh. Apparently he’s a John Deer fan.

A bloke on our village facebook group has bought himself a quad copter, and isn’t afraid to use it. The proper close up photo’s of a local windfarm, I reckon the owners would have been less than impressed! However, I digress, he took some pretty impressive images of some local field work. Lime spreading?? Dunno, I’m no expert.

That is indeed Lime. You’ll see more of that with the NPK prices through the roof.

End of last week was the APF show with loads of forestry kit, plenty of tractors, especially the expensive stuff like Valtra and Unimogs.
