Non-bike related, I’m off there for a few days tomorrow to see a friend. Never been to that part of Spain before so what are the touristy things I should see & do while I’m there?

    Cheers

Girona’s got a nice city wall you can walk along. http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=girona%20wall&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Besalu is not far away and has a lovely medieval town/fortress. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Besalú

Dali exhibition in nearby Figueres? Havn;t been but heared good things.

Cap de Cruz and Cadeques are not far and have a windy wild cape feel. http://www.apartrent.co.uk/REGIONS/CATALONIA/COSTA%20BRAVA/cadaques.htm

Not far to the Pyrenees – Nuria isn’t far, is nice for the cog railway, visiting the monastary and walking. http://www.epyrenees.com/guide/resort.php?resort=249

Watch out for pickpockets at Puerto Olympico. Two young guys tried to lift my wallet, but I felt it go from my pocket and managed to get it back. not 20 minutes later one of my work colleagues had his lifted in similar circumstances, but he wasn’t so lucky.

Less than an hour away from Barcelona and accessible by public transport if you don’t have a car

    Ah, where to start???

Barçelona must be my favourite city, after London. Fantastic place, full of stuff to see and do.

Obviously, the Gaudi stuff; La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, etc. The Bari Gotic, with really old stuff. Las Ramblas, although it’s a bit tourity and superficial, but you’ve got the big food market off there, that’s pretty amazing. and all the little side streets, with little bars and tapas joints.

Footie fan? Dunno if you’ll get to see a Barçelona game, but a stadium tour might be good fun.

Tibidabo, up on the hill behind the city, offers some spectacular views.

Just mooch about, enjoy what you find.

And the best bit of advice I was given?

    Wear comfy shoes…

We stayed at Hotel Siques in Besalu a few years ago, family run place with big fixed price menu. A lot of the town has been carefully preserved / restored but there is a sport bar just off the main square that fills up with assorted local nutters as the evening progresses and stops it being too much like a National Trust site.

If you’re foodie or have a taste for the off beat there is what claims to be the only sausage making museum in the world at Castellfollit de la Roca.
