I am a nice person. I didn’t think I was as a kid but you learn to ignore things as you get older.

It’s a difficult one this, compared to the OP, I must have had a sheltered life and or have always fought back however disadvantaged my size might have put me at in the face of rudeness and aggression, so the worse person I ever had revealed to me unfortunately was a friend on a ski trip, it was back in the late seventies early eighties, known him since he was 14, by this time we were in our thirties and it was one of ‘those ski trips they used to write about in the Sun of the period.

But bear with me a bit, so girls and the general shagging thereof was rife everywhere at the time, but we were in a family hotel and there were these kids messing about everywhere and a couple in particular we larked about with joshing with them, they must have been about eleven and thirteen.
So I was looking for my other mate who was sharing a room and just blundered into their room to find this guy in bed with the thirteen year old kid, honestly I didn’t know what to say, mixture initially of embarrassment then later anger, but other than taking the piss unmercifully that he was ‘cradle snatching’ I didn’t do enough about it at the time I now feel with the hindsite of becoming a parent in later years.
That he was, still is a bloody paedo (and has bi sexual traits)that I still occasionally run into and have to socialise with still gives me mixed feelings, I’ve made sure anyone and everyone knows what he is capable of and to be honest I’ve not heard any further repetition, (in later years his gay actvity attracted more gossip) not that that means it hasn’t gone on, but as a person to my mind on the surface he is hail fellow well met, quite liked, is very successful with the trappings of wealth which attracts the usual social climbing types, the thought that could have been my kids and yes he’s had a go at my girls, but they have always been well equipped to deal with pervs and reduce him with savage irony at every turn.
So he’s a bad person and makes me feel bad in not taking more action, a difficult one, why I’m blathering on here about it I do not know, bored at work I guess.

Getting back to lorryists, i used to drive one in America.

Back in 2000 i worked for a company called Schneider national driving up and down the 11 western states. I’ve no experience of British lorryers but fudge me American truckists are by far the worst most filthiest and wretched people I’ve ever seen.

When I was growing up in a small village in Somerset there was a pony school (read: bloke in a Caravan with some raggedy flea bitten ponies). He used to have lots of the local kids over for lessons and seemed like a good sort. He helped out my dad when the drains got stuck and let us ride the ponies whenever we wanted.

He had a young girl (20ish) and her daughter help him out regularly. Some years after I had left home, I heard that he had committed suicide because he had been caught molesting the daughter of the girl who helped him. Apparently she was one of many who he had abused in our village. He has to be the worst.

Erm… There’s no statute of limitations on child sex offenses is there? Getting in touch with the police now might not be a bad idea, especially if as you say it wasn’t a one off.

And to all the other quotes, this is why it’s so bloody difficult, any normal bad person, easy to deal with, this bloke is a really likeable guy, kind of almost grown up with the idiot, saved his life once pulled him out of the sea, I’m supposed to be skiing with him and his gang right now kind of reunion but work got in the way (it’s been twenty years since I skied with them).
Things were different back then, which is exactly how Jimmy Saville did get away with it, then time rolls on and here we are in our sixties, me still riddled with guilt I didn’t act in the way some of you point out and frankly even now I wouldn’t, I’ve no idea what went on in that room, the little girl was giggling away and gave a mock scream but it was more naughty delight than fear or horror.
So fast forward to this, he is probably the worse person I know, yet will do nothing about, it’s the human condition, we do this, it’s all very well bashing bile at a keyboard, but real life is more complicated. My girls? They are well capable of dealing with **** like him which is probably why he preyed on the young innocent types which he did for some time after (not quite as young obviously, 18, 19 yr olds). Anyway no wish to drag Jimmy Saville back into the frame, but there are lots like him and in some cases it takes two to tango. (And there’s no BBC to claim compensayshun from in this case)

Nope, this wasn’t where we worked. One of my consultancy companies before that.

Had a mate from school who was always a bit odd but once he discovered drink and drugs was a liability. After numerous escapades involving legal and illegal drugs, prostitutes, vomit etc we eventually dropped him after he bricked the front window of a house of a 14 year old girl who had spurned his drunken advance one day. We got him to go down and confess and pay for the damage in the hope he’d change his behaviour. He didn’t, didn’t really see him again.

I’ve worked with some truly shocking human beings (constantly backstabbing, badmouthing people, intentionally sabotaging people etc) but they weren’t “in my life” so it was never a problem. My ex-boss though was a standout in that area and is one of the few people I’ve known that I’d say are just plain bad rather than messed up.

a former friend of mine was incredibly selfish. He’d often host parties at his house which was nice of him to organise and host, but if anyone else wanted to host people he HAD to be invited, or worse he’d hijack the event and host it himself. At one of his birthday parties (which i only ever attended to see the other people going) one of the neighbours came around and asked if after nine we’d mind keeping the noise down as her husband had just got out of hospital after a tumour removal – fair enough we all thought. Fast forward a few hours and after 9pm we turn the music down. ‘Friend’ storms to the stereo and turn it up even louder. We turn it down again, he turns it up again. Later in the evening (of every single party) he’d get upset, angry and annoyed at everyone else, go upstairs and start slagging everyone off to whoever went to see if he was ok. He frequently accused his gf and me of having an affair behind his back, calling us all sorts of stuff.

I’m glad i cut him out of my life.

Sorry dude but abuse is abuse, simple. No excuses, no sharing the blame with a minor. That’s why there is a legal age of consent. RE the 60’s pop starts, hopefully the J. Saville enquiry will bring a few chickens home to roost.

By doing nothing, you are enabling his habits. But that’s your choice. However if I had a “friend” who was a paedo *and* had a pop at my daughter, I’m not sure if I would be quite so relaxed about it.

After child birth, whilst she was still in hospital he told her he was leaving her for someone else and had bought a BMW with the money.
Never saw her for years and out of the blue she turned up at the shop asking to lend £50, the wife felt sorry for her and gave her it, never seen her again.

The last place I worked had an absolutely poisonous atmosphere largely down to two women who worked there. Both were divorced and lived alone. Over time it became apparent that they plotted and schemed to inflict misery on everyone they worked with by making their jobs impossible, getting them in trouble or fired. I simply could not fathom how an adult could make the decision to interact with the world this way.

I also knew a guy who was so obsessed with pulling strokes on people that he would actually damage himself in order to con people.

I won’t start on my mother in law though. I could be a better person as well.

The point being he was old enough to know what he was doing was wrong and illegal. If he was 14 and she was 13 then it’s different – that’s just two kids experimenting. There never was and never will be an excuse for what he did and to think there can be acceptable circumstances is equally wrong.
