Quite natural and fun as a down, won’t be so nice on the way up.

Yep. Even an an ebike its not a nice climb.

Does that mean the green will be reopened?

So I’ve heard- the delay was down to harvester availability apparently. There was also talk of Five Year Plan being adopted into the black route as Shane McGowan is unlikely to reopen.

Given that the Glorious Five Year Plan was so named because the idea was to build trails that would last 5 years or so then be allowed to wear out, rather than the standard Glentress approach of building robust trails that would be maintained on an ongoing basis that’s kind of funny. 🙂

I do like the irony… I remember when we started into 5YP there was chat that it might replace the Boundary, but then we sorta kinda made it too hard and that got thoroughly noped… 9 years since you almost died climbing up that hill Chris!

Hang on, have they really re-opened Pennel’s Vennel to use as a climb? Have they felled that area or something because that trail was supposedly completely wrecked from a storm about 10 years ago and could never be reopened!

The first section is still annihilated. They’re using the link we built for an early GT7 (2012 at a guess) which runs from the very end of the blue climb and links into Pennel’s Vennel partway down, after the worst of the damage. There were bad hanging trees over it too, but they’ve gone at some point- don’t know whether they just naturally settled and fell enough to be safe to remove, or got taken out by people with no fear/risk awareness? It was unofficially reopened a while back, then fenced off again, but hopefully it can be retained this time- could do with a wee entrance cut onto it to avoid the blue though. A classic job for a trailfairies session, if that was still a thing.

(I’m not 100% but it felt like there was actually an old trail or path there already and we were largely just recommissioning it, either that or it just had miraculously brilliant dirt- the entrance and first “straight” needed a lot of work and still feels pretty shonky but after that we pretty much just scraped it off)

Not sure why they closed the previous diversion up the side of Berm Baby Berm though. I thought it pretty much marked the edge of the building site. It sucked too, mind, but it sucked less.

SXC had used that Pennel’s Vennel option before GT7.

Was up at the weekend. Not impressed at all with the new bits. Endless samey berms with a few mahoosive jumps (which most flat land). Also it’s in really poor condition already- braking bumps and slippy stone shale everywhere.

No way to session parts or close push up path near. Disconnected from the new ‘centre’ and yet close enough to have dog walkers bumbling about.

Shouldn’t complain but it feels like such a missed opportunity
