I have a horrible feeling Homelander might get an ‘arc of redemption,’ judging by the glimpses of vulnerability we’ve been getting.

Well I did think that, but it felt a bit spolierish

Nah, he’s going to corrupt his son, that look of horror on his son’s face that turned to bemusement as Homelander killed a civilian at the end was dark.

I only started watching The Boys a few weeks back whilst waiting for the last of BCS, and have binged all three series with absolute joy. I’d been dismissive of it as another superhero thing, but it’s been great. As a big fan of Preacher, the comic, not sure how The Boys passed me by first time round.

    You might enjoy Invincible too.

I’m a couple of episodes behind but have we found out what the weapon that “killed” soldier boy was yet?

Well I did think that, but it felt a bit spolierish

Because it feels a bit obvious by early in episode 6 but again seems a bit spoiler ish

They knocked him out with Novichok and put him into some sort of cryo-stasis. 😀

really enjoyed S3, binged the last 3 eps the other day. Awesome, best thing on telly at the moment. Even so, the whole Soldier Boy thing (wheel out a previously-unmentioned worlds-most-powerful-hero-with-an-unstoppable-unique-power to serve as the focus for the season) does feel a little like poor Star Wars style writing!
And the fact that Butcher can inject himself with Temp-V and instantly get powers equal to Homelander – but then doesn’t immediately get corrupted by the power (which I thought was one of the key points of the whole program?) – also seems a bit lazy/convenient.
    But overall, awesome 😃

and put him into some sort of cryo-stasis

Well that bit is fairly clear 😂

They knocked him out with Novichok

    Maybe less so

but then doesn’t immediately get corrupted by the power

That’s sort of the whole “it didn’t make me a monster, I was always a monster” thing that’s very much a thread through the whole series. Butcher isn’t any less corrupt than homelander, he’s already the same.
That’s no doubt part of the reason that huey clenches his backside when he teleports (unless you assume its entirely because its childish humour).

it is explicitly visualised (in awesome fashion) in one of the last couple of episodes!

Agree with zilog6128.. it made it hard to actually care about who lived or died, but man, the violence was awesome! 😀

Well, he did, quite a bit – did you not notice him gleefully mashing up Gunpowder? Anyhow he was already fairly corrupted.

I don’t think he’s corrupt, just a selfish arsehole. He definitely grows a conscience by the end tho. Whereas Homelander, just when you think he can’t get any more evil, he does 🤣

Well, he did, quite a bit – did you not notice him gleefully mashing up Gunpowder?

yes, but after that one act he is able immediately to put a lid on it. Lazy writing. (Just my opinion btw 😃)

In the comic books, The Boys all have super powers, for obvious reasons

Exactly. You get that right back at the outset with Butcher, when they’re explaining to Translucent they put an IED in his backside. There’s not exactly a long way for him to fall.

yeah, the powers & storylines etc are pretty different between the comics & the telly prog though (kind of like GoT)

that’s the whole point though… you’d expect someone like him to act like a drug addict who’d just won the euromillions, not to have one moment of madness then suddenly develop an enormous amount of self-control and pragmatism.

I don’t know if you’re watching the new Gen V spin-off, but there’s a scene in episode 4 that surpasses ‘that’ Termite scene for sheer ‘what-the-****-ery!?’…

Not yet. How are you finding it, does it live up to its parent show?

I was expecting the Gen V thing to be slightly toned down, you know college kids.

    Nope ! All full on.

    It’s good so far.

Not been publicised much has it? Wonder why doesn’t it appear on my Amazon homepage when I’ve been watching The Boys? Strange that. Is that cos it’s rubbish?

It’s all over mine, trailered on everything too.

My wife’s login gets adds for crap like crazy rich Asians or Veronica mars.

Maybe it’s because you watch rubbish?

I’ve watched the first three, and while it’s not The Boys in all that’s series gleeful cynicism of the genre, it’s an OK substitute while we wait for S4 of the real thing

I think I’ve only watched The Boys due to the rest on there being rubbish!

Probably because of the writers/actors strikes in the US – none of the stars will do promotional stuff so there’s no press interviews, etc. Same with a lot of shows/movies right now.

Jack Ryan is worth a watch, the various bosch series too though the last isn’t a patch on the previous ones.

Nah, can’t stand that sort of action stuff.
Definitely gonna try Gen V though 🙂

I’ve only seen ep 1 but that pretty much sums up my impression.

Different target audience, different emphasis (think: gender issues, body image, mental health, social media pressure) but the same sly humour. It’s not The Boys but it shares the same DNA.

It’s  fabulous. Not sure how you’ve missed the publicity, I’ve seen posters, buses with posters on and those led billboards with them on. Plus it being on the recommendations on prime.
