It’s his own stupid fault, trying to out tory the tories. It’s a lesson ‘Labour’ stubbornly refuses to learn. No doubt his replacement will be just as inept.

Whining? No, this time you might actually get some rioting…

Surprised Cameron didn’t thank the Scots people in his victory speech.

Even with Scotland’s seats Labour would still be short. Ed abandoned the centre ground, that’s what lost it for him, IMO.

Let the left wing whining commence.

And let it be shrill and long-lasting!

    and there goes Danny Alexander….

    another one down.

@Stoner it started many pages back

But the SNP bogeyman narrative played well South of the border and probably cost Labour seats there.

Not so sure. Cameron due to his negative campaigning has backed himself into a corner – his anti-SNP rhetoric will feed into the anti-English Scots and the anti-Scots English and he has promised an in/out EU referendum to appease his extreme right-wing.

The UK could look an awful lot different in five years’ time.

    George Galloway gone!

    In fact properly trounced? Fantastic!

There are many desperate people out there who have nothing to look forward to except their lives being made deliberately even worse by the new government. One day their forbearance is going to snap.

and interestingly for all those PR fans the LIb Dems currently have more votes than the SNP but only 10% of their seats

Could devo max potentially solve both problems, Scotland governed largely by the Scots with EVEL being the flipside?

    .
and so far in the counted/reported only 65% of them could be bothered to get up and cast a vote, in one of the early ones there was just over 50% turnout, those that didn’t bother actually were the same number as those who voted for the winner, that electorate could have been turned on it’s head.

So many things that I’m enjoying about the results and one massive one that is turning the rest sour. Great to see Labour punished in Scotland and likewise the LibDems everywhere. Galloway losing his seat another plus. Another 5 years of the Tories though *boke*

Might just have to apply for residency out here in Canada. Not sure the UK is going to be somewhere I want to come back to 🙁

Much simpler to respect the democratic process.

Well done Dave and Nicola, bad luck the rest.

So Scotland has voted against independence but now has more devolved power and a strong say in Westminster. Now let’s hope the result of that is also respected and the debate can cease and people get on with implementing their policies and taking responsibility for their actions, the hiding places have gone now. As SNP said this last vote was not about independence, it was about their right of centre policies, many more RW than the Tories. 😉

What has happened to LW voters and their champions?!?

Yep, although you would have to assume that there would be some regional limits on the PR as it common in other places, it’s not a magic bullet and just a different way of cutting the cake up. Also given the amount of tactical voting to remove and bolster certain candidates raw vote numbers from a FPTP shouldn’t be translated to PR numbers – my point was a little tongue in cheek to the nationalists shouting about how important they now are.

he has promised an in/out EU referendum to appease his extreme right-wing.

Indeed and with a slim majority Cameron will have to tread lightly to keep his anti EU backbenchers happy

Not sure how the SNP will wangle another referendum, but using them as a stick to beat labour with has no doubt alienated the Scots further

Will the next 5 years be the Referenda Parliament? By the next election we could be a much smaller country much farther from Europe

I think Berwick will fall to the tories, it was mostly the popularity of Alan Beith for the Lib Dems locally that helped up there and he is retiring.

I think the loss of Danny Alexander is the only one I regret. Cable is a silly old man and I wont mourn his eviscerating, but Danny was far more pragmatic in his economics and I think he did a good job at the treasury and should take a lot of credit for the economic stability we have now.

+1 whatnobeer – good luck to anyone not 100% fit and able or financially stable – it’s going to be a very grim 5 years for many.
