    Ok sent my frame back to the states and they are happy to give me a new one foc after 3yrs use 8O. now i can upgrade the frame and shock for £650 now the bad news is they are going to show this on the invoice along with the frame being under warranty how is gordon brown going to charge me on this vat and all that jazz or will it just come through without a charge.

    You'll need to show the shipping agent the warranty agreement & that should be enough to to avoid duty
    Unfortunately VAT is still due

    You are supposed to claim the import duty (that you have already paid) back from HMRC when you send the item back to it's point of origin, then pay it again on importing the new item. If it went back for a repair, then you don't have to pay.

    I know the above from experience of sending a flooded camera/underwater housing back to a company in the states. I tried to protest at paying import duty again on the replacement item and was told it was too late.
