I've just been given some superstar red & blue disc pads. will they last 5hrs of stinking filthy/wet conditions? or would I be better off sticking with the sintered I normally use?
I've never used either of the blue or red pads before.

I've got the red ones (kevlar) had them in for ages, including 4.5 hours of 10@kirroughtree, and they're half worn. very good IMO

Depends on the type of wet! I've been using the red ones for ages, one of these pairs had been in my bike for months (the other was new), over winter in fact, with no problems, then after a particularly wet race they looks like this:

I still use them, and generally they last really well.

Man I have the red pads in now and with a little rain the squeal is unbeleievable! Quite embarassing round town.

Great grip in the dry though

Superstar specifically says don't use reds in the wet or they'll disappear quicker than you can say 'octoporn'.

EH??! Quote from the red kevlar page on Superstar's website:-

Soft compound formula with low temperature resin allows for amazing power whatever the conditions from wet mud to alpine hea

I was thinking of getting the reds, so is there somewhere else where SS explicitly state don't use red in wet conditions?

I read it on the packet of the last ones I fitted about 3 months ago.

so what compound is best in the rain generally, sintered?

I've got on fine with the red ones in the wet, but then I've never tried them in really nasty abrasive grinding paste mud, just proper scottish mud. The pads I've got in the Soul now did 10UTB and any number of winter/spring rides in the local hills, they're nearly done but they've still lasted well.

I did notice tonight that I lost a bit of power on the set in the Hemlock, but then it was absolutely hellishly wet. No accelerated wear as far as I know, just that they weren't performing up to their usual standards, though still did the job perfectly well.
