Watching Sky news this morning their own poll put Braverman at a 72% positive rating amongst people who´re Tory supporters, in 2nd and 3rd place were Kemi Badneoch and James Cleverly at 40% and 30% (ish) positive. Sunak´s rating was something like 13% (might now have that actual  number but it was around that)

    72%?? Jesus wept.

Sad proof that her xenophobic, racist, intolerant dog whistle works where she wants it to.

I would have thought Arsenal supporters would be pro Palestine as their rivals are Spurs!

The nobber is walking around in a shirt that literally says Emirates across the front. FFS!

It is a bit weird to be in a place where the Hindu home secretary is dog whistling to white fascists that they need to protect the Cenotaph and Jews from namby pamby cops and Muslim extremists.

Braverman as Tory leader is still dangerous, even in opposition. There is a lot of damage, hate and violence she could spread.

if they lose the rwanda decision, i could see braverman leading the charge to pull us out of the ECHR

Does anyone really think that Sunak is actually the PM in anything but name at this point? Tomorrow it will just be confirmed when he does nothing

It’s pretty obvious who the real PM is. She lets him have his little AI thing to keep him happy, while she gets on with calling the shots and doing whatever the **** she likes

if they lose the rwanda decision, i could see braverman leading the charge to pull us out of the ECHR

She will lose it and she’ll then go full ‘enemies of the people’ not just against the ECHR but the entire legal establishment. She thinks as Home Secretary/de facto PM she should be able to dictate law by decree and she’s massively pissed off that she can’t. She will do everything in her power to change that

She’s just getting warmed up. She’s an actual full blown fascist. I’ve never seen a more dangerous politician in my lifetime

Considering what the Hindu government of India’s attitude to every other ethnic group in the country is, nothing surprises about Cruella’s attitude and opinions.

Its a way back for her family to be from India – she is the child of colonial administrators in Africa IIRC and they were not HIndus.

Braverman is a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community, formerly the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order,[141] but is not a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order.[142] She took her oath of allegiance as an MP on the Buddhist Dhammapada.[143]

Her mother is of Tamil Hindu descent but her father is of Goan descent, and with the surname ‘Fernandes’ very likely Catholic.

She was presumably not brought up a Buddhist, although she appears to lack the zealous devotion of a convert.

She is playing at being one.  Not actually a member of any sect if my reading of her Wiki entry is correct that I quoted above.

She does not act like a buddhist at all.  She does not follow the teachings of Buddhism in any way I can see tho my knowledge is sketchy

Ernie – you know a bit about this stuff I believe?

Police say Suella Braverman’s claims of force’s bias ‘a factor’ in attacks on them

In order to succeed, Braverman has to get in front of the members who will back her. But she needs enough letters to go to the 1922 Committee to force a no-confidence motion, and Sunak’s allies are convinced that only a handful of MPs actually support her. Even if others have sent letters for other reasons (Sunak being shit, mainly), they will probably withdraw them if it’s a Braverman coup.

Basically, he might as well sack her, and she can swan back in after a GE as leader of the opposition, if she really wants the hard graft of that. Which I’m fine with, if the Tories really want to go in that direction, just don’t give her the PM job by default before then.

Braverman was previously associated with her local Triratna Buddhist Order as a “Mitra”.

My very limited knowledge of Buddhism is based on attending pretty much weekly the Triratna Buddhist centre in Croydon, mostly for yoga, sometimes meditation (including loving-kindnes!) and occasionally Buddhist classes which is really more philosophy than anything else.

But I’m Catholic, not Buddhist! And I actually attended my local mosque this afternoon for a meeting concerning Palestine! I have a general respect for other people’s beliefs.

I know that you don’t necessarily TJ, my remain-loving friend!

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/12/tommy-robinson-israel-hamas-war-could-mark-return-of-far-right-figure

Robinson’s comeback is, however, likely to be short-lived. He lost a libel lawsuit in 2021 for slurs against a Syrian schoolboy who was filmed being attacked at school, and the attorney general’s office is considering taking legal action for contempt of court after a documentary repeating the libel was circulated.

Assuming it went to trial and he were convicted, it could mean that by early 2024 Robinson is back behind bars. Given his previous convictions – which include fraud, assault, stalking, using threatening behaviour and contempt of court – he could be looking at up to two years in prison.

Two years doesn’t sound like much but having him behind bars early next year, and at such a critical time, would be useful.

The thing is, Braverman is emboldening the likes of Yaxley-lennon with her hate fuelled rhetoric.
See the last day or two for examples.

She may call herself a ‘Buddhist’, but that statement holds about as much water as me walking past a Karate gym and calling myself a black belt.

Even the Buddhist community in London have told her to sod off, in their own respectful, non-confrontational way.

I could almost suggest that Bravermans’ words in recent weeks actually caused some of the clashes between the police and EDL type people.
It’s almost as if Braverman wants to stir up hatred and distrust. Someone like that has no place in public office.
But of course I would not say such a thing as fact, it’s purely an observation and conjecture on my part.
    *Cough*.

So… trouble at the pro Palestine march would have been an ideal one to get her supporters on board with both ramping up restrictions and also the general support of racist elements.

Problem is, it was likely to be both large and peaceful which really doesn’t suit the agenda. “Hundreds of thousands of people peacefully protesting causing no trouble” doesn’t help sell the idea of needing to restrict right to protest in any way.

Solution? Deliberately stir up trouble. It didn’t look to have been easy to feasible to get the protest itself to not behave itself and there’s only so far “offensive logos, chants and stickers” would get her. So just go ahead and stroke up trouble with a group far easier to incite to trouble, then encourage reporting to conflate the two events such that the Palestine march not appears to have caused trouble. Job jobbed.

The above appears to be exactly what has happened and and sickened and appalled both that it has happened and that it’s being defended, including the deliberately mis leading messages coming from the top of our own government.

Very much this. We are sleepwalking into letting right wing politicians think they can “use” the far right bully boys, choosing to ignore how well that has gone when it’s been tried before in history.

First they came for the Just Stop Oil protesters….then they came for the antiwar protestors….

Not sure a ‘Free Tommy’ campaign during an election is a good thing. Might allow Reform to leach off some more votes from the Tories though.

It’s pretty clear what she’s after doing here and it’s another case where I think Sunak agrees with her…

She wants the right to authorise what protests do and don’t go ahead to be taken out of the hands of the police, who have to abide by the law on assessing any restrictions, and placed in the hands of politicians (namely herself) instead

Apparently the proposals are already written. She needed some disorder this weekend in order to make the point why this should be the case, so she invited it

This is the behaviour you associate with tinpot dictatorships, not democracies, but then we know this lot all hold democratic norms in contempt.

We’ve Johnson to thank for that, but someone with a far more sinister agenda was bound to be along and eye the fragility he showed in our (unwritten) constitution and how to bypass it
