Eh its so folk in whelchairs can push the button then get through.
Well for the door in question, it would have been easier for them previously as they’d have just rolled up to it and it would have opened automatically before they disabled the sensor and installed the button instead.
You get automatic doors that open with a button and others that open with a sensor – they both open automatically. I’m sure there is a very good reason why the sensor has been taken away and a button installed. You do know you can still just push these doors open, you don’t have to use the button.

I opened the original “image” in a new tab when you first posted it, which gave me URL removed by request had to then inspect the HTML to extract the correct URL, as flickr hides the proper one (I guess if you’re logged in you can do other things – wouldn’t know as I only use photobucket). Then lopped the “?v=0” off the end – though it seems to still work with that:
