The boy has outgrown his 24” nukeproof Cub Scout in both size and riding and wants a full sus

was about to buy him a small intense primer 29er but think it will be a tad too big.

want to spend around £1k (used) and want a light, versatile bike. As he will use it for xc, bike parks and even some bikepacking.

im guessing I really need to find an xs, or s 27.5

hard to find anything… any recommendations? Cheers

My wife is 5’ 0” and uses an XS size  Specialized FS with 27.5 wheels. It fits her fine.

Thanks, looked at those livs, can’t convince the boy though… he wants something that looks more modern😂

Form Vs function…. And kids want to be trendy.

The specialized or treks are larger but trendier…

At that age my 2 went to 26″, but it was around when the world went to big wheel sizes and there were lots of nice ones, and bling parts, to buy.

If you end up selling the nukeproof and somewhere around the north west I’d be interested – I’m on the look out for a 24 inch bike for my son.

First thought was a nice 26” but nothing around anymore

selling the nukeproof but I’m the opposite end of the country in Cornwall.

he does ride pretty hard for a youngster at bike parks, so need something that will work well for him in that environment and also work for longer rides too.

I’ve a YT Izzo… if I could get that in a small size with 27.5’s it would be prefect

Ah, I was going to suggest a 26″ hardtail, but looks like he’s surpassed that.

My 4′ 8″ lad just moved from a Nukeproof Cub Scout 24″ as I managed to grab the 26″ version at Xmas, before the end of an era 🙁  Absolutely love it, awesome bikes!   Perhaps there’s a few out there?

He’s also got his eyes on his Mum’s 5010 – perhaps a Small one of those if you can find one?

chambord – we’ve got the grey Nukeproof 24″ that, as of last Saturday, is up for sale.  South Yorks, am up in the Dales quite a bit and Lakes some times so drop me a line if you are interested and don’t want to go for postage from hooja.

Carbon fibre Specialised Stumpie Epic 26″ in small,,?

    1 careful lady owner

( manchester area but do travel)

Though I’d need to wrap a €500 note around the handlebar grips to make it cost a grand 🤩

PS – not mine by the way, though my wife had one that both our sons rode and one of my younger son’s friends (slightly shorter) now rides.

I struggled too my when my youngest was that size. I got him this, which has been unused for a year and I should get round to selling it if you’re interested, about £700 ish maybe? I changed the forks to Yari, and put SLX brakes on. He rode it for two years before moving to on to a bigger bike. It’s in excellent condition

if you’re interested I can get some pictures towards the end of the week.

Can you get Chromag in the UK?  They do good children’s bikes.

XS BMC speed fox trail crew with a slackset.

Will go up and down anything

Other 27.5 2016 generation bikes with short cranks and a slackset are also great options

kona process 134 – they are cheap at winstanleys. or get a frame off ebay. medium would be fine as the seat tubes are so short.

Mine had a black (with pink hilights) XS 26″ Giant Avail 1W. High spec and £1k about 10 years ago. He loved it. Sold it to a work colleague as her first MTB. She still loves it now. Buy anything XS, used (and preferably 26″ for proportions) with confidence because 1) he’ll grow out of it and 2) there is huge demand for properly sized small bikes for small people! Giant make properly sized small bikes.

My eldest is a smidge over 5ft, as in about 1/2″ and is now on a small Lapierre XR7.9 29er with a 100mm dropper – pictured below pre-dropper – after moving on from a small Scott Scale 950 29er, also with a 100mm dropper. Both bikes have 60mm stems and 700mm wide bars.

The middle one is now the proud owner of the Scale and he’s 4’9″ and he has a 75mm dropper installed – mainly because he weighs about as much as an empty crisp packet so he has the Brand X kids one, he’s not heavy enough to move the normal adult spec ones.

Honestly, I think XS will be too small and won’t last very long at all. That Liv pictured above looks like the head angle is more akin to a road bike, might just be the picture.

Thanks… that’s great! Good to see a 5footer on a 29er for scale… I was worrying that 29” might make him look like he was riding a comedy bike.

he really wants the intense primer we found and this may give me the confidence to go for it (it’s a long way to drive to get it)

I agree about the livs, they look horribly steep

    @hooja

Same child on the Scale 29er a few weeks prior to the Lapierre landing.
