I know I am late (about 3 months late) to the realisation that segments timing has changed.
Has anyone on her actually subscribed and found it useful?

Well the timing hasn’t changed but you can only see the overall top ten and top ten women, not top ten this year, of your mates, clubs, etc. Your PR appears so you know how far off the top ten you are but not your position so you could be 11th or 111th.

You can’t compare your own times either.

You can’t use route builder but your existing routes are still accessible.

I subscribed, felt I owed them that much.

Ironically it has been a lot glitchier since I started paying, all leaderboard related e.g. after (usually) a long ride with lots of new segments it won’t show me results, or only shows me a fraction of the segments on the route. Lots of switching between private/public or between activity types usually sorts things, eventually…

I’m a subscriber but don’t check the leaderboards…all the ride info provided can be had in the likes of Garmin Connect, but there is no socialising element and the segment bit doesn’t work as well (although I’m also finding that the Strava stuff appears to have been done with phones as aren’t that accurate as I’m trying to recreate them in Garmin connect).

I subscribed, mainly for Beacon so that me and the mrs can keep an eye on each other!!

Been a subscriber for a while and the new changes are good for me. I use a heart rate monitor so get useful info out of that side of things, like the training load and fitness/freshness tracking. The heat map is good too. Pretty much replaces what I used Veloviewer for now, apart from the explorer squares. Only trouble is, Veloviewer doesn’t do the full heart rate analysis stuff unless you pay for Strava as otherwise they don’t send the data across. I’d just paid for another year on Veloviewer when they announced all of this so will continue to use both for now but may drop V/V next time.

The main thing I miss is the heat maps. Everything else can be duplicated elsewhere, more or less, but access to the massive amount of data they’ve collected over the years is unique to them.

I’m begrudgingly beginning to come round to the idea of paying for Strava for that function.

I subscribed because they offer something of value and should be recompensed for that.

The cost is peanuts. If you’re middle-class enough to be on here and use Strava then you can more than likely afford to pay for the privilege.

I use intervals.icu (it’s free though you can make a donation) for HR and power analysis, they also use Strava as their activity source. Strava does send HR data through if you’ve enabled it in Strava, you don’t need to be a subscriber for this. It may be part of the VV-Strava contract that VV don’t or can’t use/show it. VV certainly don’t show segment data unless you are a Strava subscriber.

I use VV for things like Explorer tiles.

@eyestwice sorry, didn’t realise I had to be middle class. Better go and delete my account.

I subscribe. Worth it for me. I actually find the Jonathan O’Keefe heat maps look nicer.

I subscribed. Strava was always a good motivator for me and as I’ve been getting back out on the bike so it was an easy decision. I subscribed before as I didn’t mind paying for what I thought was a great product and was happy to support them, not everything online needs to be free. I have went monthly though and I may opt out over winter, I’ve a wattbike coming and might use the money I’d spend on Strava sub on Fulgaz or Zwift etc.

To actually answer your question though, yes, I’ve subscribed and yes I’ve found the sub features handy.

I noticed the phone app will now layer heat map over a ride.

I wouldn’t pay for full leaderboards. Not with the accuracy of most peoples GPS and all the e-bikers out there these days. The route builder was quite useful, particularly as it worked nicely off road and would lock onto heat maps. I may pay for that at some point.

I subscribed and am enjoying using the route builder, plotting mega loops I’ll never do!

@jordan Bruv, you diss me point, yeh?

Says everyone on here, on a daily basis.

It’s not a class issue, it’s an observation.

If you use Apple subscriptions, you can pay for the individual “packs” still instead of all the features.

That pricing remains until a date in August – 23rd, maybe? Then any new subs are the 40-odd quid a year cost.

Yeah and using it more than ever. Has coincided with doing more training and local exploration. So I’ve been using the relative effort as a training volume/intensity indicator (but better than counting hours alone), and have found the route planning with embedded heat map to be very good too.

£40 for a year seems fine, especially given I’ve been a member since 2013. I can convince myself it works out at 47p / month for that time and this year.

I realized that sometime subscribing would become inevitable, and now that it has I have subscribed – mainly on the basis that they deserve to be paid for an excellent product and £40/yr is not much compared to the cost of replacing bike parts as they wear out.

I also see the Subscriber symbol has appeared in the Avatar for most of the people I follow/ride with.
