Some of you may remember my original thread here from when I was planning and designing my ideal commuter bike, this was the end result:

    VJutKhB

It ticked all of my boxes nicely (apart from requiring a new downtube after a crack!) and transported me to and from work for a good few years.

However some scrote took a fancy to it on Saturday, nicking it from a rack in Wandsworth.  If you see it around or spot it online I’d be most grateful to hear.  turboferret@gmail.com

    Bugger that’s not nice.

I’m assuming it was locked up with decent locks (plural)? How did they get it, battery operated grinder?

I’m sorry to read this. Sad times you can’t have something like this and be sure it’ll be there when you come back.

I wouldn’t have left it locked to a rack outside anywhere to be honest, unless it was unavoidable. 😔

Really hope you get it back.

I’m not sure berating him for not having locked it up securely enough is helpful chaps 🤣  Just let’s keep our eyes peeled for it eh – a very unique bike, but with no brand on it it’ll be hard to search for on ebay/FB marketplace etc.  Will probably be flogged as “road bike”.

Hope you get it back Rich.

OP,that is really sad to read ,it’s such a horrible feeling. My son had his brand new commuter nicked in the first two weeks he was using it. I remember when you did that build and was super impressed with the detail.I hope being such a unique build it gets spotted easier.

Thanks guys, yes it did have a decent D lock on it, and a cable through the wheels, was locked with my son’s bike which had a different lock on.  Was parked for 2 hours over lunchtime right outside a busy shopping centre and only his was left when we emerged after some bowling.

Being totally bespoke does indeed make identification very easy – the frame number is a combination of my DOB, previous postcode and my initials, so there won’t be any issues proving it’s mine if it is found.  However, I can’t exactly put Santa Cruz Stigmata (or whatever) and see what hits I get on eBay/Gumtree/FB marketplace etc.  Searching by ‘road bike’ is going to be very tedious.

It is/was insured, however with the excess I can expect best case scenario to be £1k out of pocket with what I had valued it at 🙁

At least I probably don’t need to change the brake pads any more…
