Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the GX and NX cranksets.

Thinking of going for the GX. Just curious as to what the difference between the two is.

I think (certainly on the GX 1400 ones) that the chainring spider can be removed and you use direct mount rings, whereas the NX can’t (it’s just the 4-arm spider).

There may be some weight difference too. Not sure about that, though.

I’ve got NX cranks and they are direct mount. They dont feel any different to any cranks I’ve ever ridden and I’ve had X0 in the past. They are just heavier.

Not all the GX1400 cranks are direct mount either. Mine weren’t.

If you don’t need direct mount, get Shimano instead though.

Ha – well that blows my theory out the water! Every day’s a school day on STW 😀

Cheers for clarifying. I’m guessing that SRAM say the GXs are 15% stiffer and lighter 😉

    GX1400 have a removable spider, GX1000 don’t

    GX1400 have a removable spider

    My 2016 OE ones didn’t.

    I was quite disappointed.

If you want a set of 1400s that have been… furiously loved, but fine… you can have these for £35 posted..

The gx cranks are 100 gms lighter than the nx ones. In function they probably work more or less the same.

No problems with NX here, bought them cheap from Decathlon early last year. I like the steel chain ring you get with them, so much so I bought 4 of them when CRC sold them for a few quid a bit back. They seem to last forever, just what I want.

unless you really want the spiderless chainring, just get SLX, lighter & cheaper, and stiff as you like (only flexy cranks ive ever owned were SRAM s1000s on a 2015 bike and the nx suspicously look very similar)
