Building up a singlespeed commuter road bike and I have a spare 1x Sram 12spd AXS chainset.  haven’t bought a chain or rear SS cog yet though.

Trying to work out if there’s any way to get it to work “as is”.    SRAM’s AXS chainsets only work with flattop chains, which have a specific width/roller-size meaning the chainring also has weird width/spacing, so I guess I have 3 options?

    1. Find a flattop compatible SS cog for the rear. I’ve tried running 12spd AXS previously on my turbo with a zwift cog(for all intents/purposes a ss cog) and it fitted but was noisy/clunky AF, so assuming a standard SS cog would be the same. Doubt there is a flattop SS cog out there…I mean, why would there be?!
    2. Change the chainring to something like a wolftooth that is more broadly compatible with 11spd chains and run that so it will work with a normal SS cog. (Not too bothered about running a 1/8″ chain specifically).
    3. Try running an 11spd chain on the existing chainring, but given differences in size it might work but wear horribly, and also with a SS I don’t want to take any chances with drops/snaps etc.

Have I missed anything stupidly obvious? Feels like only option 2 is the only go-er?

I feel like another option might be to sell the Red crank, and buy something that would work ☺️

    But, as a serious answer
A 11 speed Sram chain will actually work okay with 12 speed AXS 1x chainrings.
I’ve used that set up a few times in the past, and the other way round (Flat-top chain on a 11 Speed chainring)

So yeah, i’d do option 3!

I am actually tempted to just flog the chainset and get one of the zillion second hand ultegra cranks arms being sold at the minute due to unwanted recall replacements then just stick a wolf tooth on that. Added bonus is I don’t need to faff with trying to remove and replace existing Shimano PF BB for a DUB one.   Good to know though that 11spd chain will work ok tho so do have options

Can you not just swap the chainring?
