  • Spoke lengths and other wheel building fun…

My existing wheels have WTB rims that have an ERD of 537. If I was to try to rebuild the wheels with rims that have an ERD of 542, would I need new spokes?

Actually, it was just one question. Oh well…

Ta. That gives spoke lengths that are shorter by 2mm on the new rim. Next question – is this critical and I need new spokes, or can I get away with it and use the old ones?

Went from a 605 to a 601 ERD (Crest to Flow) the other day and just about got away with it. Did consider going down to a 12mm nipple from a 14mm to accommodate the 4mm reduction but the spokes weren’t poking through so they had some allowance.
