Splitting a Shimano Chain

Can I split a 9 speed shimano chain and fit a SRAM powerlink? I’ve done it in the past with 8 speed, but not done it with 9 speed yet as I’ve always bought SRAM 9 speed chains.

best bet with shimano chains is to split it into loads of little bits, then buy a SRAM one… 🙂
