Does anyone run these, specifically in 29″ form?

What’s your opinion of them for general winter riding, having to deal with mud & roots but not many rocks?

Would these be a better bet than The Captain tyres for this kind of riding?

    Cheers

    Not in 29″, but I use a 26″ 2.2 on the front.

It’s OK over wet roots, but not great although no better than other tyres I have used on wet roots. In claggy mud it tends to clog a bit, but again, no worse than other non-mud specific tyres in similar conditions….

It’s a pretty good overall tyre; I’d replace it with the same, but I wouldn’t buy it specifically for getting me through the winter.

I used to have a Captain on the back tyre – same story as above really. It works well as an all-round tyre, but I wouldn’t buy one specifically for winter riding….

Ms Spanner has one on the back, all year round.
She’s on her second now and really rates it.

Very high volume, so you can run it a bit softer.
Grips very well indeed onto most things (certainly better for her style of riding than the High Roller it replaced) very predictable, rolls better then a Cinder and cheaper than an Advantage.

Not tried it on the front.

I’m about to find out. Just swapoint out mountain kings for them. They seem to be big for their stated width. I’ve heard friends talking positively about them.

Just bought one after reading this thread as i fancy a slightly wider 29er ‘mud’ tyre to try alongside the usual Bonty Mud X which i find a tad skinny. Also bought a Maxxis Beaver yesterday to try.

If you are going to buy some Purgatorys’s then Edinburgh Coop are doing them for £22.99 free post which is where i’ve ordered mine from (i was about to buy from Cyclestore for £29.99 when i did a quick search).

The review on 29inches.com seems pretty favourable.

Not used them in 29″ but I run a 26″ Purgatory on the front of a couple of my bikes, with a Storm on the back. Seems to work pretty well and, as Mr Tall says, they’re also cheap.

I’m looking to give one of these a try with a Clutch SX on the front.

Why is the availability of the Armadillo Elite 2bliss model so poor? Has it only just been released?
