I had shockingly painful knees some years ago. Doc couldn’t figure it out, sent me to a consultant who X-rayed and couldn’t see anything wrong. Physio had a quick tweak and said “skier are you?”. Apparently knackered cruciate ligaments.

See a physio.

Any family history of arthritis?

Hello oldboy, aware of the possibility of arthritis. Great gran and mum had it rather bad.

Partly why I’m so keen not to have the “oh, cyclists, sore knee yeah” attitude thrown in from the medical folk but my disposable income is zero so need a state supported solution at the moment.

Also, if I was to pay a private physio, I’m concerned about going, finding out what’s wrong and not being able to go back for whatever reason. Also, 27 in May. Which, apparently, is when things start to go wrong.

Should also say I’ve had some welcome offers from some local physios on here but I don’t even know what I’m asking for!

Hey, cfinnimore, 27 is really young for arthritis-linked knee pain, I think! My family history related arthritis problems didn’t start until my late 40s. So get some good medical advice, and good luck. Avoid private pyhsios, they’ll only take your money for short term relief. BTW, I can’t run anymore, which was my main competitive sport, but cycling is no problem at all.

Stopped that pretty quick.

You can get osteoarthritis early though. My missus has it and she’s 33.

Dr felt my knee on wednesday said bollocks to waiting for an mri and I’m having surgery monday!

Fell off bike 3 weeks ago. Still on crutches and despite loads of physio I cant straighten my leg.

Wrightyson, you can have just a diagnostic arthroscopy. I had one when I was 15. Had crepitus so just went in. Found nothing of note, flushed with fluid and that was it.

Had a mri this time though, to fix osteochondral leision and I had a discoid meniscus tear. So partial menisectomy.

It’s not painful, just dull soreness when fatigued. And it gave way after I stood up off the sofa.
