    Having taken the mudguards off for the summer I dropped the rear and sheared the piece of metal where the stays meet the mudguard.

    Any suggestions on how I could repair this, other than this pretty terminal problem they are in pretty good condition and I’d rather not have to buy another set right now.

    I’d melt a hole through it with a soldering iron ,put a cable tie through it and another below the nut on the stay and then tighten them both together.

    I’d drill out the rivets

    I’d make a new bridge out of aluminium

    It’s just a strip with two holes in and bent to shape.

    Then I’d rivet it back in.

    These are bluemel 65s which appear to be £27 on Trekkinn.

    I’d just buy some more. They last a couple of years then start falling to bits.

    If you repair it with aluminium it will corrode away quite quickly in winter salt. The attraction is that the aluminium is easy to bend and drill.

    A thin piece of stainless would be much better.
