Just wondering who makes the best bearing these days? Rear pivot ones are shot and wouldn’t mind something that last for a change. (All be it the maintenance maybe my fault)

Got a full set of Enduro for my Trance for fifty quid and a few mates reckon that was pricey and could have got them from a bearing supplier cheaper. I thought fifty quid for a full set was alright. Not fitted yet so can’t comment on quality, or if they are any better or worse than whatever Giant fit as standard.

TBH, there aren’t actually many places who make bearings. Lots of places that have bearings made to their own spec though. And put them in their own packets.

Grease fill and bearing/seal spec have more bearing (ha-ha) on how durable they’ll be than the manufacturer.

As long as they actually meet the spec on the packet, and make them from what they say they are made from.

Just go to a bearing supplier/distributor and ask for SKF, you’ll not got wrong. Bearings are one of those items that are counterfeited in some well known countries, we get offered them all the time. Because of this we only deal directly with the manufacturers of bearing, SKF in particular and one or two others real specialists.

My suggestion would be to go take your bearings out and take them to the nearest local bearing supply place and see what they can do.

I say take them out as they may need to measure with a vernier or similar to get the right bearing for you.

Eriks or Brammer are national companies and should have a branch reasonably close by. Might be worth speaking to some friends to see if you can ‘use’ their account to get discount too.

As an example I got freehub bearings (SKF for those that are wondering) for my fulcrum wheels recently for a just over £11, cheapest ‘specific’ fulcrum bearings I could find were £20.

As for brand of bearings, SKF or INA would be my choices.

Impatience got the better of me so ended up buying enduro bearings for the task. Generic size stamped on the seal cover and confirmed by commencal so should be ok. £5 each for the BO ones over £9 for SKF, maybe false economy but let’s see what the winter does to them 1st.

    Cheers

    depends what its used for.

as a side note ive recently been speaking to a chap at enduro bearings and he said although the bearings may get grumbly they are still good.
