I’ve put some 35C knobblies on my Amazon tourer. Does that count?

Really enjoying it at the moment. Dunno what differences I would experience with a “true” CX bike.

    Oh go on then:

The race bike. Photo taken when I built it over 2 years ago, so it’s now looking quite different with a new saddle, crankset, front brake and Stans Iron Cross wheels. Lovely bike.

The commuting bike in CX season pit bike mode (wears skinny tyres and a bigger gear for the rest of the year):

    Just built, and loving it.

Electronic shifting and disc brakes are the future. Not a huge leap forward in either department, but definitely better enough that there is no going back.

Fortunately/unfortunately, where I live it will never be as dirty as oldgit’s!

Unlikely to ever actually make it a a CX race but great for titting about. Hopefully the STW stem police won’t get me.

anyone got a working fix for mudguards for offroad use on CX bikes ?

Swan Zefal likely to go on mine shortly, also have a set of SKS P45 ones for winter use, but not fitted yet

cp, thanks. I like it too. Well, them actually.
It’s a 42 ring and the cassette varies according to the race. 12-25 if it’s flat, 11 or 12-28 if there’s a hill or two. I haven’t managed to find a ‘proper’ chain device – combination of a braze on mech support and a funny-shaped seat tube – but the fixed front mech has worked perfectly so far, 12 races and no problems.

Interesting – I’m currently building a CX race specific bike with 42 x 11-32 & LX rear mech.

On my commuter, I do similar to you with the front mech to hold the chain in place, which has worked really well so far.

I have a 3D printer at work though, so once I’ve finished the build, I’m going to measure up and make one specific to my chainline.

See that ^^^^^ that’s the frame my heart would buy, but when 7 seconds still make a difference the head has to hold the wallet.
