Got a new Hope BB, and wondering if I should grease the axle or not of my 105 crank, Hope does it in their instructional video, but could it lead to slip between the bearing inner race and the axle (as it sits directly on the axle)?

Which in turn could lead to scoring of the axle and wobble etc?

Hambini said he went for 25 mm ID bearings in part to avoid having the bearings sit directly on the axle.

Who’s Hambini, and why would he do that?

Yes grease the axle and stop worrying.

I need to pop mine out and re-grease after all this dry weather actually.

Hambini is a 5 year old aerospace engineer/powerpoint expert that makes the world’s best? bottom brackets and roasts brands/people when warranted, he roasted a female cycling journalist on technical merit and she pulled the sexism card that’s all.

What I did, but curious as to why and if this under-rotation thing can be a problem with bearings sitting directly on the axle.

H ave a Hope PF screw together BB in my hardtail. I greased the spindle, but water has got in and it has corroded the spindle on the NDS. So that its now slightly undersize and creaks in the bearing.

I would always grease, but my £100 BB has eaten my £100 chainset when i didnt keep it dry inside…..

Not sure how to prevent it, and ive not had anyrhing like it in my c.30yr mtb experience.

Yes cause otherwise the centre of the axle between the bearings can corrode and result in having to use a mallet to knock it out next time your change your frame bearings (says someone who used said mallet this week).

Why = it’s a moving part, can be noisy if dry (or corrode apparently, as above).
    Your other Q = **** knows, but you’re probably over-thinking it.

he roasted a female cycling journalist on technical merit and she pulled the sexism card that’s all.

He had a slide with a question asking if her vag was H7 or M7 fit, and for viewers to leave a comment. A bit much really. The technical roasting is enough.

Quite funny though that the responded to Cycling Weekly’s accusations of sexism by posting that “token attractive woman” goof from their own mag.

There was a thread on here recently about wither MTB was still to male dominated. If you take arseholes like Hambini with anything, you are contributing to it being that way.

Let’s just get the OP’s axle greased and move on with our lives.

So the M7 -> vag powerpoint was in the initial video where he reamed cycling weekly? Missed that bit.

who will point out the deficiencies in your frame, while simultaneously being able to sell you a part to fix thing things he’s just pointed out…How very convenient.
