Should you grease your axle before inserting it? Hollowtech 24 mm..

Got a new Hope BB, and wondering if I should grease the axle or not of my 105 crank, Hope does it in their instructional video, but could it lead to slip between the bearing inner race and the axle (as it sits directly on the axle)?

Which in turn could lead to scoring of the axle and wobble etc?

Hambini said he went for 25 mm ID bearings in part to avoid having the bearings sit directly on the axle.

Who’s Hambini, and why would he do that?

What I did, but curious as to why and if this under-rotation thing can be a problem with bearings sitting directly on the axle.

H ave a Hope PF screw together BB in my hardtail. I greased the spindle, but water has got in and it has corroded the spindle on the NDS. So that its now slightly undersize and creaks in the bearing.

I would always grease, but my £100 BB has eaten my £100 chainset when i didnt keep it dry inside…..

Not sure how to prevent it, and ive not had anyrhing like it in my c.30yr mtb experience.

Yes cause otherwise the centre of the axle between the bearings can corrode and result in having to use a mallet to knock it out next time your change your frame bearings (says someone who used said mallet this week).

Why = it’s a moving part, can be noisy if dry (or corrode apparently, as above).
Your other Q = **** knows, but you’re probably over-thinking it.
