    Hi,

My new xt brake levers have failed already ( I think) less than 6 months old.

The lever reach adjustment on the right hand brake doesn’t do anything. It just rotates. It has that feeling that the plastic has rounded off and just spins. It’s currently fully extended. At 6ft3 I’ve got big hands but it’s a bit more reach than I’m used to!

Am I missing something or do I need to send them back?

Will disconnecting it from the caliper free it up to be able to twist it?

Apart from this the brakes feel great!

The reach adjuster is a pretty standard screw acting on pivot via threaded barrel i think. It should be repairable but it’s probably lever replacement being Shimano.

At 6 months it’s definitely Warranty.

Either way I need to remove the lever!

I don’t have any spare brakes so it means the bikes off the road!

    Thanks

All might not be lost if you can’t warranty it – SJS do the lever unit on it’s own for £23. Not ideal but less than a new whole resevoir bundle… Exploded view shows how it all fixes together so you should be able to figure it out.

I was thinking that underneath the pivot might be an allen bolt as seen for reach adjusting deore brakes but the fact that this doesn’t show on the exploded view makes me doubt that… If you can get it apart to have a look and find an allen bolt that might be a cheap fix?
