One of my friends is running a Shimano FH-M678 freehub and its pretty rough so needs to be replaced. Now he’s tracked down and bought the right part, but has no idea how to swap them over. Anyway he’s asked me and as far as I can tell, its just a case of removing the axle, bearings and seals then undoing it with a BFO Allen key/Hex key.

    is it that simple??

He will be upgrading to Hope hubs in the near future, but for now just wants to replace the freehub.

    Cheers

I like Hope too, but I do like shimano hubs, as you’re about to discover, compared to the “pawls and springs everywhere” experience of rebuilding hope hubs, replacing a shimano freehub is a 5 minute job if you do it whilst greasing the bearings.

Nice one. That’s what I wanted to hear.

    Thanks 🙂
