shimano claris 8 spd with a flat bar shifter ??

anyone know if a shimano claris 8 spd mech will work with a 8 spd thumbie or a old sti  ?

Yes, all shimano 8 speed Road (apart from Dura-Ace) and MTB shifters and derailleurs uses the same cable pull. You can even use a 6 or 7 speed shifter it just won’t pull the cable enough to get into the 8th or 7 and 8th gears
