Got an ultegra equipped bike in with a knackered return spring – only thing wrong with the shifter!!

    Anyone know of any/whereabouts

It doesn’t look like they were available as a spare so tracking one down could be tricky

    They are generally not fixable.

If the return spring can be had it’s fixable

Is the part you need in this photo?

No, it’s the double ended coil in the shifter part for the left double shifter

I have a 685 lever with the same issue. At least it’s the LH shifter so the pair is good for 1x, but it’s so frustrating that for the lack of a tiny spring a shifter can be bricked.

I ran into the same problem, and I solved it by cutting a few coils off the end of the spring, then using pliers to bend a new “hook” on the end of it. You have to make sure that the new hook has roughly a 0° or 180° orientation to the hook on the other end, or the spring can twist itself loose once installed (I made that mistake). Make sure that the lever part which the spring pulls on will retract fully after being actuated, and you should be good.

I created an account just so I could make this reply!
