I’d like to change my cranks to a shorter length without spending loads. Can get SLX without a chainring for not too much over £100. But will a Shimano 12s chainring work with the rest of my Eagle groupset? It’s not Transmission or Flat Top chain or anything. Or is there a non-Shimano chainring that’ll fit Shimano cranks and work with SRAM chains?

My understanding, and this is from someone who’s not on 12 speed yet, is that Shimano chains have chamfer extensions on the inner plates and so corresponding material had to come off the chainring.

For this reason, I don’t see why a SRAM chain wouldn’t run on a Shimano chainring.

Using 12-sp XG1275 cassette and X01 chain with Deore M6100 crank and 12-sp chainset – no problems at all. That’s with Shimano mech and shifter but that won’t matter.

Thanks, good to know. I shall give it a go. Much prefer shimano chainsets too so will be glad to remove the sram original.
