Hi All,
I need to know the following!
I'm using a 29er 1 x 10 bike for road work, but could do with maybe going 2 x 10 with a larger outer ring, a 48t for the flat and down hill bits. My question is, can I fit a 32t and a 48t xt chain ring to the xt arms then just needing a front mech and a shifter? And will the original 9 speed xt chain rings work with a 10 speed chain?

Might be better just fitting a bigger single chainring? - 36 - 40 Tooth and save youself the hassle? - providing you could manage the ups with that?

Im pretty sure you can run 32 / 48 and yes, you should just need a front mech and shifter.

If it's a M770 Chainset they come with 22.32.44T

I was told the internal part of 9 & 10 speed chains are the same, it's juat the link plates on the sides that are thinner, so yes your 10 speed chain will work on 9 speed rings ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Alan,

I thought about a larger front chain ring, but I have some very steep stuff in Yorkshire to climb up and the 2 x 10 option would cover all. Thanks for your advise!
