I’m currently reading, off and on because it ain’t particularly pocket-portable, Gardner Dozois’ Mammoth Book of Best New SF 27. Previous one had less dross, but it’s worth digging through for the good stuff; much of which is better than you might expect from a collection so named. In the era of the soap-operas set on ring-worlds the short story is intergalactic emperor Ming the Merciless.

Sort of sci-fi but I’m just finishing The Country of Ice Cream Star by Sandra Newman

I couldn’t put down ‘The Martian’ which I bought last time I was at an airport, having not been drawn to sci fi books before. It’s an example of ‘ real science Sci fi ‘ according to reviews within. Anybody got any other good examples of this genre to recommend please?

Bought this last night and I was up till about 4 reading it this morning! Good shout, ta! 🙂
