Well, seeing as it’s almost Saturday and the England/Wales match is almost upon us, here’s a video that I took at the Wales/Scotland match the weekend before last.

Nobody sings their National Anthem as well as the Welsh. Fact… 😉

    COME ON WALES!!!!!

TBH they way things are going I vote we make Wales the lions team, with a few notable exceptions

Great idea, seeing as they’re going to play Australia, who’ve beaten Wales in the last four outings since 2009. 🙄

“New Zealand are the only team who have really beaten us. In the rest of the games we probably beat ourselves,” said the 26-year-old.

    guess who?

I assume he didn’t see or play any part in the World Cup quarter final, when to my mind, Wales played Ireland off the park. A really ruthless, clinical performance.

But, then again, clearly that never happened….

Your absolutely neutral, unbiased mind captain? 😀

“We need to be a bit smarter and when we do have our foot on opponents’ throats, we should keep it there.

“In the past we’ve let teams off the hook. We need to be a bit more clinical and grind it out when we need to. We had the opportunity to do that against Wales three weeks ago. We wouldn’t be talking about this if we had beaten Wales.

“With Ulster we drive up to Ravenhill on a Friday night knowing we’re going to win. We also need to be driving on the bus to the Aviva knowing that we’re going to win.

“That’s the feeling you have to get at your home stadium and it comes with results, big victories and strong performances. We should start that this weekend. Leinster have a great record at the Aviva Stadium, so it’s not about the ground, it’s that our performances haven’t been good enough.”

The rest of the quote, for a bit of context.

    Edit :
Its that last line that’s key. Its a motivational comment, recocognising that Ireland need to (and can) improve their own performance. Its not as boastful as it appears when selectively quoted without context.

CFH, Wales were outstanding in that WC QF.
More recently though, Ireland threw that game away three weeks ago with bad decision making on the pitch.
They were 21-15 up with 10 mins to go and an extra player and lineout dominance, yet kicked for goal from a penalty in their own half, with nothing suggesting Sexton would have a hope of making it that day.
That just wasted a minute, then gave the ball and initiative to Wales (who then went on and finished superbly). Worst decision I’ve seen (still don’t know if it was Sexton or OConnell), it broke a lot of the Irish and gave the Welsh an extra yard of pace, like throwing the towel in.
That’s where Ferris’ comments come from.

I see that Hook is out. As an Englishman, I am quite relived. I think that given his ability is says a lot about the Welsh back line if he can only start on the bench. When he has come on he has looked very good. Stephen Jones has replaced him. Delighted!!

Stephen Jones is a pretty reliable replacement though…had the odd game for Wales in the past 😉

Anyone watch the Scrum v classic game Wales V England from 1976 the other night….I’d forgotten how good scrums used to be…formed and scrummaging in seconds….please can we go back to that!…I ff up to engage on games I’ve Sky plussed 😳

On balance, it should be Wales to win by a try and a bit.

or they’ll throw it all away and lose a match they should have won – eg a typical Welsh performance… 😉

Our bench seems to have taken a big hit, still think we’ll dominate the breakdown, if we get our set-pieces right I’m confident of a win, if not could be a tough day.

Off to the bookies soon, £300 on wales, hope the odds are still 4/6. Need to win… my new bike fund.

Indeed. wales have looked at their best when Hook has been at 15 but not playing a traditional 15 role in attck. Rather than hitting the line at pace hes been playing as an extra playmaker on the edge of the blitz. Henson would have been an ideal replacement for that role but he cannot cover 10 so Jones it is. Says a lot when a doule grand slam winning test Lions weakens our benh though. It means wales will be heavily reliant on bosh and certainly lacking more subtle skills.

I’m far more relieved that Byrne hasn’t been himself. As good as 1/2p is, he’s not impressed me like Byrne used to. That bloke could cut you wide open seemingly from nowhere.
Hook, Foden, Kearney. FB is not a position the lions are lacking in.

I agree with a-a that it seems strange that having a Lion on the bench weakens the team. I think that Hook’s has been a real star, making a difference when coming on. Jones is really only a 10, and sadly is heading towards retirement. Bringing Hook on added a dimension to the Welsh attack, which Jones cannot. But he can kick, so that provides some coverage in case 1/2p gets injured.

England have the same problem – the idiot Armitage should be on the bench with Flood, covering 11-15. Instead Mike Brown is sitting there, only really covering 15.

I am really looking forward to this match. Wales need to convert the ‘could be’ status into a real match winning team. Potentially the back line could have some real stars. As the underdogs England have a chance to play a more expansive game, without being blasted for losing. The only risk is that the two midfield’s cancel each other out and we end up in a war of attrition, which benefits no one, especially the crowd.

Henson would have been an ideal replacement for that role but he cannot cover 10 is bloody useless these days, so Jones it is

A-A It’s over, you need to say goodbye and move on. What about Warburton? he is quite pretty, in a boy next door kind of way, and he will never let you down the way the orange one has.

With Phil Bennett and Brian Moore saying that this should be an easy victory for Wales (ok, they did add some caveats), its fun to go into the match as clear underdogs. 40k XC bike ride in the morning, watch sons play early afternoon, then Eng vs Wales late afternoon – what more could I ask for? Perfect Saturday morning/afternoon.

So Wales to win by 15+ or a close niggly affair to be decided by a last minute penalty? Or is this the upset of this year’s 6N?

Great that the 6N throws up much closer matches and uncertain outcomes these days.

Better than ever – he can waltz passed any defence with a quick(side)step.

Me too. So much so I’m willing to crucify my legs on tomorrow’s event by posting a 50k PB too early in the season just to get home in time. :-/

FWIW, I’m wondering how Stephen Jones might cope with Barrit/anyone running straight at him. He can be a bit fragile if theres a lack of space / hard tackle.

I wonder if thats what brings Farrell into the game, I see him as slightly more able to breach the defence as a runner than Catflap*.

*Always assuming he doesn’t kick the ball.
