A friend of a friend once told me that if you were too cheap to buy digital maps and too hard to only go out when its dry, you could create portrait-based route maps from Bing/OS by rotating the screen and fitting the whole north-south biased route on. And if you wanted to mess around with scale to get 1:25k instead of 1:50k you could even use CTRL-mouse scroll to ‘fit’ more on rather than rely on the scale slider built into the maps themselves. Apparently.

Me I have a pivoting screen but I’d never do that.
