    Christ, that’s some faff!

Despite borrowing my mates joeblow booster, can I get the bead seated with rimpact installed? Can I ****.

Eventually gave up and took em out, they’re new tyres so I’ll ride tubeless sans rimpact for a couple of weeks and go back to it.

Main issue is that the strip sits right over valve, and despite having radial holes in the valve to counter this, just can’t get the mass transfer if air required to pop the bead on.

Any nougats of wisdom that will help?.

Find somewhere with a proper compressor (petrol station is an obvious place to start).

Wait until you try to get the tyres off again, Christ, nearly dislocated my thumb’s last time.

I take the valve core out and use my pop-bottle booster thing, ideally after leaving them in the sun for a bit. Seems to work ok, but I recall it took a lot of attempts with the back one last time (Minion DHR2 on Hunt Endurowide). If you can do a sneaky dry inflate, then pop one side off and manage to install the noodle with the other bead still seated, that works too.

did you inflate the tyres mins the rimpact first? i.e get the bead seated, deflate and then insert rimpact

    As above
    Seat tyre without Rimpact.
Then pull just one side of the tyre off and put the insert in.
Lay the wheel down on a bucket with the unseated side down and then pump it up.

Would a 9kg extinguisher have enough grunt? I have one converted if you want to give it a go, might need a presta adaptor though if I can’t find mine.

Assume you’re using the rimpact valves? I have found mine to seat quite easily and I assume it’s because the valve design pushes the insert out to create a bit of air space around the valve holes. Needed a (DH, steel) tyre lever and a bit of muscle to get the last tyre on though. Have also found you really have to work at getting the bead down into the rim well to free up enough bead to pop the last bit on. And it really doesn’t want to stay down there. Persevere at this rather than the brute force bit.

I had the front tyre seated first, then slipped one bead off as suggested, nada. SK I have just such an extinguisher sitting awaiting conversion, need to get my finger out, thanks for the offer.

I’m using the genuine rimpact valves too.

I’ll try the bucket trick, gonna ride it for a week to see if bead stretches off a bit.

Cursing that I’m not still in my old job, shop air at 100psi, from massive receivers, took that for granted!. 😂

I have a parts list if you like, I was going to put it up here but never got around to testing it until the other week and not had time since. Works a charm though

Most of it is BSPP but a couple are specialised fittings (M8 J thread rings a bell for the old horn connection), I have a schraeder valve for charging up where the bursting disc is on the handle and another clip on schraeder on the end of the hose.

Still welcome to borrow it, my 729’s are being bastards and not sealing and we’re down at the rink 3x a week now.

I’ve always found that once I’ve got the tyre and rimpact on (which can admittedly be a fight) that they blow up and seal with very little effort. I use my converted fire extinguisher as a matter of course but have done it with just a standard track pump when away from home.

    Must just be lucky!

Parts list would be handy mate! Save me a visit to pirtek for fittings.

I take it you’ve tried removing to core for inflation?

Nope, have fitted Rimpact to two of my own wheels, and done one for a friend also. All three fitted by hand, no levers needed, inflated with a track pump. Was amazed by the lack of fuss. Bit harder to remove them, mind, the insert keeps the bead against the tyre so often need a lever to get behind it

I’d never had a problem until I got a wire-bead Onza. Would not seat and was a nightmare to get on the rim then I started doing this and it made it much easier.
Fit tire and seat using a tube first
Unseat one side, remove tube and insert Rimpact
Refit tyre leaving one side unseated, doing the shove bead into centre cushcore trick.
    Seat using a canister/fire extinguisher.

That worked until I dinged the rim which I discovered yesterday at BPW, when trying to fit a new tyre at lunchtime. Rode the afternoon with a rock hard tyre with the tube in..Until I crashed at the bottom of Watts Occurring, Doh! Now I need to pull the crease out with molegrips before anything will seal.
