Riding near to Llandudno/between North Wales and Cheshire

I’m in Llandudno next Saturday for a bit of work.  I’ll probably be done by about 3pm. Should the weather be good then I’ll be taking a bike and the motorhome and hoping to do a ride Saturday afternoon/evening, and another Sunday morning.

I can take either a gravel bike or a trail bike, happy with either trail centre or natural riding. Very much a wheels on the ground xc mince type rider.

Probably a couple of 25-30k rides would be ideal: I need to be back in Cheshire for late afternoon on Sunday.

Well Gwydir forest is one of my fave spots to ride and has a marked trail plus a load of off-piste. Good for gravelling too probably.

Gwydir and Penmacho are just down the valley and both worth riding if you like purpose built trails. You can even link the two to make it a VERY  big day out. Coed-y-Brenin is in the other direction perhaps. There’s a well-used route around Drum Mountain out of Conwy if you fancy something more natural

Gwydir….is that what used to be the Marin trail? Rode that and Penmachno a number of times in the past, not been in over a decade though. Main worry is parking the motorhome up…. Penmachno parking was tiny iirc?! (It’s a 6m motorhome l, so not huge, but not always that fun to park either)

I’ve seen big campervans at the Sawbench car park at Gwydir.

Should be getting quieter after 3pm on a Saturday, but perhaps locals can tell you better.

Drum mountain route has been on my list for some time, and you could park in official car parks in Conwy.

Closer to Llandudno, you’re only ~27 miles away from the as good as traffic free Stwlan Dam climb from just south west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, reckoned to be one of the best UK climbs https://www.strava.com/segments/1398283

Quite a lot of the stuff recommended above, isnt really on route back from Llandudno to Cheshire !

Drum mountain route looks good.  Maybe that and either Gwydir or Llandegla en route home will be what I plump for.

Why not go to Llandudno on the train and ride home? Get a B&B on Saturday night.

Depends what your work is I suppose and how much kit you need to transport.

It was fine a few weeks ago? Don’t think that there’s ever been a height barrier there?

@tthew there are multiple reasons why I don’t fancy either the train there, or riding home 🤣

T’yn Rhos caravan park was nice and quiet but it’s a long time since we were there (when Wills and Kate got married!). The Giler Arms pub was ok too and they had a campsite for tents at that time

Bodnant Caravan Park in Llanrwst also takes tents, we’ve used them before. Can ride to gwydir trail easily from the site

From Llandudno, you can cycle west around the estuary, past Conwy castle and pick up the  North Wales path out the back of Conwy over to Aber falls. Drop down to A55 and keep going to the sea. Back along the beach to Llanfairfechen then pick up the national cycle path up to scynant pass. Peel Off at the top and left  towards Conwy mountain for a coastal/castle view descent.

Or the clwydian range is nice.
