I was one of those who jumped on the half price Cannondal Trigger 2 deals 8 years ago. It is now practically worn out (The frame got a bit battered in a recent house move and the entire drivetrain needs replacing) so I'm thinking it needs replacing. £2.5k to £3k. More XC riding (on natural trails/woods where I live in mid France) than anything else. Suggestions ?

I'd say this is one of the best buys around at the moment for XC/trail riding:

https://www.yt-industries.com/products/bikes/izzo/core-2/550/izzo-29-core-2/

Only L, XL and XXL in stock - but I'm 5ft 8in and I'd be looking at sizing up from medium to large anyway.

If you have a bit of money left over, I'd take the Sram NX drivetrain off to sell it new and replace with some Shimano (better quality at budget level).

That Izzo Izza Bargain! My neighbour has the Uncaged Izzo and loves it. Here in Finland we tend to ride natural terrain which is rooty and rocky.

Yeah, I'd probably have got one myself if I hadn't recently upgraded the frame on my trail bike.

Bugger, due to one thing and another, I missed out on the L versions of the YT bike and after some research, it seems an XL will be way too big, although they are even further reduced, almost 50% off now (someone at 6ft stated that a L was upper end of his 'fit) Canyon Neuron looks similar, anyone had a Rose bike as they do decent specced bike for reasonable money ? (Obviously EU suppliers are open for me to buy from without issue)
