“TBF ratty the company has done everything possible to make the process as clear as possible and everyone is treated respectfully”
good that your mob have been like that ….. I’m not going into details on here for obvious reasons…..
in other news my mates just been on the blower – his workshop at oceaneering have just announced to the staff a 50% reduction in workshop/field staff based in Dyce.
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberHow long after applying for jobs would you expect some sort of response beyond an auto-reply e-mail? Been sending out applications now for 4 weeks and only heard back form a couple. And in some cases the companies have advertised new jobs in the meantime.
On the one hand panic is beginning to set in and I’ll apply for anything. On the other I don’t really want to apply for different roles at different levels of seniority in different parts of the country and possibly have to lie through my teeth in an interview as to why I want to move roles/locations.

Oooooofffffff!
We’re down from about 3500 to 650 or so, but that’s been a decline since 2008. If this dip is anything like last time we won’t recover, last time most of those that survived left as soon as the market picked up after the company generated such a lot of ill feeling and this time the mood seems even worse.

Same here, It’s all well and good, but with everything being by the book I feel like I’m just lurching from one ‘consultation’ to the next, and no one can tell me when my actual end date is because as far as the process is concerned I’m not officially redundant yet.
l0keyFree Memberif your going via agencies and submitting cv’s via the job portals, I ‘d always suggest a phone call to the agency involved a few hours after submitting your CV. Works as wake up to them, “hey! that CV you just filed away, i want this job get my application processed please.”
They muist get loads via the job sites and some will slip through without being noticed. Also allows them and you to have a chat and they may have other roles not yet listed that you may be applicable for.
If your applying directly, not sure how HR departments react to chasing via phone, but if they have a number on the auto reply its there for a reason.
mattyfezFull MemberIt’s fickle, I work in IT, and have had a couple of redundancies, applying for probably about 30 jobs a week via job sites, I’d maybe get one or two call backs from that, maybe one interview a month.. It’s a numbers game.
Anoyingly during my last period of job searching, I was unemployed for about 3 months and starting to get a bit worried, got an interview, took the job, but at the same time my phone lit up with agencies with potential jobs.. Like busses.. None for a while then 6 come along at once.

I’d only expect a response if they want you in for an interview, in the weeks following application end date

Thanks Matty once I’m redundant, at least I know what to expect
allymcmurdoFree MemberWell things have taken a crazy batshit turn at our place. The company wanted rid of 19 men at my location. Then they went and won quite a large contract that no one really expected. Hooray for everyone you would think. Not so, we now have the bonkers situation where the 19 may still lose their jobs….because the guys who the contract was taken from may have to be TUPE’d across. Despite them being based 60 odd miles away. WTF?
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberWell the inevitable happened this morning, I’m redundant and finish in July.
Actually quite cheerful about it. The mood in the office has been pretty miserable this last year and a lot of really good people have gone, both pushed and jumped.
AndyFull MemberBad news TINAS, hope you can maintain a positive outlook on all of this. Most people i know have benefited from redundancy albeit a painful experience on the way.
AndyFull MemberOh and i joined the club last Thursday after 20 years at one company. It was VR though so i cant complain, and the company i worked for have been brilliant about it, even if they were a bit clumsy about managing the organisational change behind the VR.
Have known about it since last October. Still a bit wierd now its finally happened.
