    Another vote for Adidas

    One less vote for Adidas

I bought a pair of their Goretex Terrex boots for walking the dog. Fell apart after 3 months. Holes appeared in the top and the waterproofing failed. Got a refund and bought some Scarpa’s which have been faultless after almost 2 years.

Earlier this year I saw another pair of Terrex waterproof shoes very cheap so bought them. After a few months use, all tread is gone from the sole and the same hole has appeared on the top as the previous pair. They’re due to go in the bin this week.

For reference, I’ve never had this with any other shoes, boots or trainers, and any others I’ve bought last me years without experiencing the level of wear and tear the Adidas Terrex stuff suffers in a few months of use.

Are the terrex super grippy on wet rocks? You can’t have super supple wet grip and durability sadly (see unitoyal rainsport car tyres for eg)

    or just naff?

I was recced Keen here on STW. I bought some, loved them, bought some more.

The most comfy I’ve found I got for work, but I use them for walking as well as they are so good, also for cycling if I’m not doing anything too serious. They’re quite grippy, I use them to climb ladders at work.

The Graphine used by Inov8 is very impressive. Much more grip than my Salomons and no sign of wear

Bog standard soles on the pair that have worn out super quick. No mention of any fancy materials or the sole grip being a key feature

I was told by a friend recently that his penchant for a bigger size of footwear for wideness was found by a podiatrist to be an arch problem. With appropriate inserts he took his shoes down a size and increased his long distance walking comfort.

seems ‘fallen arches’ and mitigation for those can make a big difference to footwear.

Interesting! I use innov8 trailfly’s w graphene for off road running and find them decent on dry trails, decent on muddy (but nothing like XC) trails,  but whenever it’s wet or slippery on asphalt / rocks they are – I find – just as scary as most other soles. I realise running is different to walking. I thought the graphene was to effectively extend their lifespan. They advertise 7-800km when running shoes are known and often advertised to collapse at about 500k~

they definitely do feel more durable than normal shoe foam. Definitely don’t find them wet stone grippy though.  The tread pattern is great, not knocking them at all. I love them.

Been following this thread as I also have wide feet and really love my altra lone peaks for most things but wanted a boot with a bit more protection and weather proofing for hiking holidays in Scotland, Wales and Spain. Got some innov8 Roclite Pro G 400, 40 percent off arriving this week so will see how they go.
