Our parish council is discussing putting a pump track on the village recreation ground.

They are mostly old people and the contractors they have spoken to don’t have experience.

To avoid wasted money on a useless effort by those who don’t know, I’m thinking of getting involved to help guide it in the right direction.

Does anyone have any contractor recommendations that could provide a quote for a build?

    Cheers

Yes definitely get involved, it’s as simple as using the wrong grade surfacing material which will ruin it. Anything like jumps, table tops, berms are an art to flow, the list is endless of what can make and ruin a trail / pumptrack.
At the very least you want a local trail building volunteer group to advise or lead (ie there’s usually one at your local trail centre) or a contractor who has a proven record of previous similar builds. Pumptracks are even more of an art to design and build

Check out the Chopwell trail builders group and Friends of Chopwell, recently built a pump track near Chopwell Wood. Contractor appears to have been Velosolutions UK.

    Speak to Architrail.
They are very good trail builders themselves and do most of the work for Velosolutions UK pump tracks (i.e. very high standard)

Happily recommend Dirtworks, Phil is a genius creating waves on land.

He works nationwide and will no doubt offer advice if you contact him.  He built our local track and has been back over the years tweaking and improving it.  We won’t let anyone else near it and the council have agreed finally to just let the expert look after it :-).

Let him know Steve from Bruntwood pointed you in his direction.

It was indeed built by Velosolutions and was pretty much all organised by the Friends of Chopwell Park.  It’s a mint track, and nearly always rammed – the kids especially love it.

Pretty sure Farmer John builds pump tracks as well. Manchester /Marple Bridge area but I’m sure I remember him saying (in a conversation about 3 years ago) he’s built them abroad so distance may not be a factor.

Would also happily recommend Dirtworks https://www.dirtworksbmx.com/ for the same reasons Steve said. Bruntwood is the “North West Race Track” in the portfolio and I’m sure the “Private pump track” is the Hope factory track in this feature – Hope.

Architrail/velosolutions will be busy for the next few weeks building ours starting next week. To be honest cost wise them and Clark Kent were pretty close at architrail was a track better suited to what we wanted. Both do good work though.

I know this is a classic ‘how long is a piece of string’ question, but I’ve been thinking about approaching our parish council for something similar, wondering what ballpark costs are?

Clark and Kent seem to be the big guns in this world with Olympic BMX tracks and 100s of skate parks and pump tracks on their CV, that’s not to say there aren’t loads of other great contactors of there.

From memory, Clark & Kent did the one at Rhayeder (try a pumptrackwales search) and the one at Nant yr Arian was the lads from Black Mountain Cycle Centre, Sean Bevan. Quite different styles of track.
