Sports Direct (probably Evans too) have pinnacle smart direct drive turbo trainers for £70, there is £19.99 delivery charge on top, but at £90 it still seems a bargain.

Got some good reviews too from Road.cc and Cycling Weekly.

Thanks – it’s years since I’ve had a turbo trainer tucked behind the sofa so it was time for a new one.

<goes off to investigate this new-fangled ‘Zwift’ thing he’s heard about>

Christ on a turbo trainer that’s cheap

Bought. My 2nd hand totally old school turbo was only 30quid less than that. The claimed RRP of £700 isn’t realistic, more like £300 in most places, but £70 quid is ridiculous.

Be interesting to see if they honour it or I get an email with a refund and an ‘out of stock’ message.

I actually don’t know why I ordered it as don’t really have anywhere to set up the trainer indoors now.
Anyone got any ideas how I can boost my WiFi to reach my shed?

Worth reading reviews. More than one saying you need to reindex gears between this turbo and your wheel. Too much of a hassle for me.

That does sound like a pain, but guess to be expected as it can also happen when swapping out wheels. Will be a bit down to luck, so fingers crossed.

    Dammit, missed out.

Obviously a few people got cold feet after ordering and have put them up on ebay with only a small markup to cover their time and expenses. 😒

Fairly common when swapping wheels though so probably not unique to this one. And it’s usually solvable with a shim/spacer.

There maybe one available from the Brighton area for £89.99 shortly. Bought it before thinking about where I could actually have it set up. Not to mention I gave up zwifting because I hated it 😄

Would have like to have give one of these a try but missed it. I guess they just sold so many at this price point before pulling the deal. I didn’t get on well with the magnetic / fluid trainers that well but would have liked to try the newer offering a so heard it enhanced the ride (gradients etc)

How do you actually buy the bastard thing? it only has a dead ‘pick a size’ button when I look.

Still giving me the option of buying – could be a site glitch, seems fine on Chrome

Just ordered one. Wasn’t looking for a new one but too cheap to turn down – will replace current dumb turbo with stages crank power meter. Wait and see if the order is honoured.

Could you run your mobile as a hotspot?

I doubt much data is downloaded as long as you install/update game over your wifi in the house if on a laptop/ tablet.

Ohh cheers for the tip that it works in Chrome.  £90 seems like too good a deal to miss even if it isn’t as silent as it’s competitors at full price like the reviews said (could even get a set of noise canceling airpods with the change).

STW I take it back, you’re not the only site on the internet that still only works in certain browsers 😉

No confirmation e-mail and no money from my account so I guess it’s a nope then.

agreed. For me it’s one at the router, and another in the house, on the windowsill that has a clear line of sight to the shed at the far end of the garden.

Pending transaction for me on my CC, and both “Order Confirmed” and “Order Processed” emails through from Sports Direct.

Turns out space wasn’t the thing stopping me from getting a static trainer, it was not wanting to pay money to people! Now to find free training software…

Just tried to check and looks like I’ve misstyped the e-mail, and I can’t view pending transactions on the card I used, guess it’ll be even more exciting if Evri actually manage to deliver it 😂

I ordered one yesterday afternoon. I’ve also received the confirmation and dispatch emails, so hopefully it’ll arrive.

Anyone know if I’ll need a to buy a spacer to use this with a 9 speed cassette?

I think yes. You need the spacer that usually comes with an 11s Freehub, but not the one that comes with 10s casetttes.

The manual says you need a 1.8mm spacer for eith3r a 9 or 10sp cassette. Helpfully one is included in the box…

    Whoop whoooop it’s arrived.

Genuinely did not expect them to honour it and assumed it was a a glitch reducing the price of something that wasn’t selling in volumes!

Mine has also arrived but I’ away at the moment. I also have a 10sp (Shimano) road bike which is the one I’m going to use. If anyone has got theirs and knows for sure whether I will need a spacer (i.e. not supplied with it) and the width I’ll get one ordered so it’s there when I get back.

Mine arrived yesterday but I’ve not had a chance to set it up yet. I have unpacked it though and it has two freehub spacers as well as the QR and thru axle end cups, so you shouldn’t need to buy one. Thanks for the PSA OP.

Mine is due Monday/Tuesday and I’ve already said that a mate of mine can have it for what I paid for it. There was not much chance of me using it as I’d rather go to the gym for an hour or 2 than sit in my shed on a turbo. Plus it’s another subscription to pay for. Glad some of you got in before the price went back up and will be put them to good use.
