My mate, who is partly Scottish, called his son Connor because of that movie! 😎

Classic. Particularly fine because all the actors playing Scottish people can’t do Scottish accents, while the one actor who actually does speak in a Scottish accent is supposed to be Spanish 😅

    Ramirez…..

He’s Egyptian, it’s the accent it sounds Spanish.

All the other Scottish actors may disagree with you.

And the fact he’s called ‘the Spaniard’ and his name is Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez. Although Egyptian.

Brilliant movie though, been trying to get my wife to watch it for years.

In my high-school there was a massive painting of Connor Macleod in one of the stairwells.

One of my all-time favourite films.  As per Kimbers, I can probably recite most of the script.

I was in the village of Glenfinnan on the banks of Loch Shiel just a couple of weeks ago rather than in 1518.  I was genuinely disappointed that the visitor’s centre had capitalised on the Hogwart’s Express viaduct and had absolutely no mention of the MacLeods.  But I did the “I am immortal” speech which made precisely one person happy, bucket list ticked.

Also, my Loch Shiel photo came out OK.

Also one of my favourite all time movies. I had to watch it about 6 times before I figured out what was going on, but they have been because I had been in the pub all night.

It’s also just epic when Queen opens up for the first time in the movie!

Bit dated, needs a remake with a lead who has charisma and can act. I’ll forgive it because it led to me having a great day climbing routes up onto the Cioch with a mate who wanted to stand on the bit they had the swordfight. Epic trip off afterwards, abseiling down gullies off dodgy chockstones in search of water because we were so dehydrated after a night on the lash in some Dunvegan bar with formica tables the previous evening….!

Harsh.  To my mind, Lambert being slightly off-beat just adds to it.  “You talk funny, Nash, where are you from?”

No, absolutely not this – it works very well as it is and doesn’t need redone.

Wrong. Needs to be remade with Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig and Kate McKinnon.

Let’s face it – in the current Film / TV Drama commissioning climate absolutely anything that can be remade will be remade. It being a terrible idea is no reason not to do it.

I mentioned the escaped gorillas that were cut from the Goonies on another thread – its only a matter of time before they get their own 5 season spin off.

There’ll soon be a whole franchise universe based on the characters from the Test Card

you know, I could get behind a Cavill remake. It’d need to be gritty and not too camp though. The original is a romp of 80’s gold (IMO).

started watching it on BBC and it just wasn’t the same atmosphere as watching a poor 800mb rip of a well played VHS. 😉

Some things should be left alone… Highlander being one of them.

“will you love me forever, Connor?”

    “aye lass, I will”.

Great film and soundtrack and poignant for me as it reminds me of a good friend who died when we were both 22.

I always assumed Glenfinnan in question was a made up name for Eilan Donnan, which is on the shores of Loch Schiel.

Or at least it’s on the shores of the loch at the bottom of Glen Shiel where the River Shiel joins the sea. Weirdly not called loch Shiell at all.

    Now I’m confused

Eilean Donan isn’t on the shores of Loch Shiel…

Rewatched it today and I stand by my opinion Christopher Lambert is a talent vacuum in a dated film that lacks pace and internal logic. Compare it to The Terminator from two years earlier. Not even close.

I’ve never seen it though it’s definitely of my era – it just looked like it would be total shite. I’m almost won over into giving it a try by the devotion shown to it on this thread then Montgomery turns up with

Mm indeed. I had gathered that. It is on the loch at the end of glen Shiel, near enough where the River sh….  Which for some weird reason  isn’t called Loch Shiel

    Anyway.

Top 80s cheese with a rock soundtrack. Yeah it’s still great.

Nah. The Lost Boys is great 80s cheese with a rock soundtrack. Highlander is just…well, I think we should appoint Johnners as judge. I await the final verdict.

Well 2 and a TV series.

2 films yes, unless you count highlander 3?

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110027/

But in all seriousness, don’t watch any of the sequels, just the original, it’s gloriously 80’s, the sequels and spin-offs are just pale effigys.

Was also my favourite film at the time, partly cos I was a massive Queen fan. It was of its time and I still love it. The second one was horrendous.

The lost boys is top notch 80’s too…

I agree… @johnners go into it with no pre-conceptions and a clean pallete!

There’s a cross over Highlander film too with Connor helping the chap from the TV series. From memory poor old Connor is finally killed off?

The original is absolutely ace! Not ageing as well as some but it’s still a brilliant film. Forgive me father, I am a worm!

I think the Queen sound track definitely lifted it A LOT..

But Sean connerys character was superb as his mentor, also.

And the villain… Very creepy and disturbing.

Wait until you discover that Kinlochewe isn’t at the head of Loch Ewe at all – it’s at the head of Loch Maree! 😂
