So the Mod’s response to both these threads is?

“Please ensure thread titles don’t spoil sporting results for other forum users or…”??

We will not discuss what went on between the mods and other users but the issue was dealt with.

I mean, respond directly in the two current threads discussing spoiler thread titles with clear guidance for future reference. I’m not asking you to comment on the past, I’m asking you to help shape future behaviour.

Ah sorry. As said earlier it may come under negative use of the forum rule, if we believe it is then will be dealt with. We respect for all sports or events that there’s those that can’t watch them live but will still visit forums. So out of respect it would be nice if people added SPOILER to the thread title if it was revealing something crucial to that event or had the potential to.

Sorry Drac, being a bit picky:

“it may come” and “it would be nice” isn’t clear guidance.

This is obviously causing grief and people are cleary not capable of using their own judgement. I think you (STW) need to be more definitive. Please.

    *chuckles*

btw my Cavendish thread (as mentioned on there) was about his Oakleys, I mentioned nothing about him winning, you (and the mods) did all that for me.

Whining Mildreds indeed, again just proving how sanctimonious and boring this place has become

    😆

Who made you the forum police? You gonna take your ball and run off crying to mummy?

No, I’m a bit more grown up than that. I’m responding to you complaining about how boring the place is. Livening it up by pissing everyone off isn’t the most grown up approach is it? If you’ve decided it’s boring and sanctimonious, leave. It’s really, really easy.

I couldn’t care less about appearing to be grown up or not, it’s an internet forum ffs

Yep, Houns welcome to the world of ‘me, me, me’.

Oh clever you – I am in awe of your forum skillz.

I agree with boblo – some definitive guidance would be good – maybe even a sticky at the top of the forum setting out ground rules (I know nobody reads the stickys, but at least you’d be able to point to it when banning somebody). I appreciate this comes under normal forum rules, but in this case there’s a very specific issue which comes up every year and results in these debates every year – something which doesn’t happen in the same way for other sporting stuff. If the mods believe that posting results in thread titles is unacceptable then please say so explicitly (if not please say that explicitly, and those people affected can stay away from the forum), which would answer those like toys who think there is free speech on here. I was going to say well done for dealing with the issue as it comes up, but the available evidence that Houns is still posting suggests it hasn’t been.

As mentioned elsewhere, not that it bothers me directly as I tend to follow live on the net anyway (this year I can watch live on TV if I want), though getting the mods to say something was one of the reasons for starting this thread 😉

No need for a sticky Rules are here.[/url]

“it may come” and “it would be nice” isn’t clear guidance.

Fair point but that’s because it’s not a direct rule, it comes under the negative use so will look at each individual one. If it’s clear someone has made an innocent mistake we will add SPOILER to the title if it’s noticed or reported. If it’s people trying to bait, which has been apparent with some, then we will deal with that issue. However, we will monitor the situation and if it’s decided it needs to a specific rule then that will be addressed.

It’s respect for both parties, we want people to discuss such topics as what happened yesterday in the TdF but we ask those that do to make it clear that it may contain spoilers.

No need for a sticky Rules are here.

Except it’s not explicit in there – otherwise we wouldn’t be having this debate. As I mentioned, it is a big issue every year, so why not try and do something a but more pro-active about it, or are you happy with people following the advice of the selfish and not using the forum? Meanwhile if you’re going to edit thread titles (well done 🙂 ), then please get rid of spoilers in the titles!

I agree but can they also not use blatant titles that spoil

Wiggo out of tour – spoiler

    Would be a tad pointless

Ps you do have my sympathies as there seems almost no standard here we will unite behind.

I was kind of hoping that goes without saying.

It’s an issue all year round not just TdF. I will raise the issue with the other mods on Monday to see what the general felling is. YOu have to remember that the forum is modded by volunteers and staff of ST. All of which have lives and jobs outside of the forum, we rely on members reporting issues too. Add “Mods can you change the title” in a thread is often futile as we may not have seen the thread anyway.

Yeah but ultimately, what was Houns’ original post all about? It was all about him seeking attention. Which he’s now got. And is revelling in. And the more you go on about it, the more he enjoys the attention. S’like a naughty kid playing up in the classroom. He’s probbly now thinking ‘heh I peed off some people on the internet’.

Maybe if Houns is mature enough, he’ll concede his actions mightuv bin seen as bieng a bit thoughtless and inconsiderate, and think about it in future. And think ‘maybe it’s not nice to spoil peoples’ enjoyment of a sport’. Maybe not.

Don’t allow yourself to be peed off by it, is the answer. Starved of the oxygen of attention, the troll will wither and die….
