Police times grumble.

Been a week and a half since I got rear ended and the police haven’t done a bean.
So in the meantime my cars unsecure and looking battered/gassing me out.

We are unamused. There can’t be that much crime in this blooming mining village I know.

surely it’s up to your insurance company to sort out a repair, not the police?

Not sure what the police are do with this either.

It was a hit and run. So waiting on the police to visit the offending party. Ins co can’t do anything without the police say so.

do you have only third party cover?

I assume you only had 3rd party cover as the insurance company should be repairing it and then allocating who pays for it as in the 3rd party or the insurance ombudsman eventually if they are uninsured.

I still can’t see the police involvement being anything but incidental.

You have comprehensive insurance to cover situations where the other driver disputes your claim or can’t be traced. They sort out your claim and you get the excess back once blame is apportioned and the other driver identified. What if they had no insurance at all?

I’d be moaning about the insurers from what you’ve said so far.

Are you not carless now? Get it in and repaired. Hire the cheapest run about whilst it’s in for repairs and get legal to claim your expenses from the other side. If they are uninsured then at least you’re not lumbered with an over priced courtesy car to pay for.

3/4 times. It’s being allocated to someone is all I get.
Policy doesn’t cover a loan car and I’m still driving mine with the boot ties closed with rope..

Ins co told me that it’ll likely be a write off and I’ll have to pay my excess before it’s sorted. By this time the other party has prob had it fixed and deny all.

They can’t contact their ins due to data protection or some crap

I take it your trying to claim against to Third Party to avoid paying an excess. You can claim on your own policy to speed things up. Not ideal but will get you on the road quicker.

Well the GMP RTC unit was running at a 4week backlog, plus they give the other party 28 days to get back to them so that’s potentially 2 months before you even know whether the other party are ignoring/denying it all.

Dunno if hit n run are investigated the same tho.

If you have the Third Party reg you can find out the insurer (for a charge, think it’s less than £5) and contact the insurer direct.

Failing that an accident management company can do the checks/contact the thirds party insurer on your behalf.

How’s my choice led to this? They take my car away and analise the damage which may take a week. In that time I have to source transport, no way I can afford a hire car ATM.

I’ll have to look into finding their address thing.

All the police have to do is go round confirm and give me an address.

sorry I do not understand this what are you expecting the police to do? In a hit and run the police issues are who was the other party was there any damage ? The identity of the other party is irrelevant to getting your car repaired unless it is down to socco and paint deposits . The issue of damage can be demonstrated by a statement from you the repairing garage and photos. So there is no reason why your car should be in unrepaired limbo because of the police.

I’m expecting the police to give me the other parties address.

They told me they were planning on charging them with reckless driving leaving the scene and pos reckless endangerment.

My ins co say they will write it off. Thus the carless bit.

So I’m in limbo as to whether the ins co will write it off or fix it. Can’t fix it in case they say shoulda written it off

so limbo is down to you and your insurance co not the police .

took 10 weeks for the police to visit the guy who ran into and left the scene of my OHs car. in the mean time he repaired it – getting rid of the evidence.

I know they have a tough job to do but seriously!

it seemed to be one excuse after another. Couldn’t visit to interview as he was on nights – I’ll stay up – i can’t interview at night etc etc.
