So some wee scrote nicked the rear wheel off my sons bike yesterday, it was locked up while he and his mates were playing footy nearby, they saw the lads ride past holding the wheel but only realised it was his wheel when he got back to his bike.

The really annoying thing is that according to the bike shop that stocks GTs  it’s a really unusual axle width ( I think he said 141mm, it’s a 29er) and they’re not even sure if they’ll be able to get me one, so said scrote won’t be able to stick it on a bike or realistically flog it anyway, I bought the bike second hand a couple of weeks back for £180 and it looks like it’ll probably cost me that to replace the wheel once you include the rear cassette, disc, tyre and tube and then maybe the chain, gits. It just really annoys me, my son was gutted.

Would hazard a guess it was a 142mm. It’s a bolt thru size that came after 135 quick release, but before BOOST took off.

Some hubs can be either 135 QR, or 142mm bolt through depending on which end caps you use with them (depends on the hub manufacturer providing this capability, and being able to obtain said end caps).

Sorry to hear your sons bike wheel stolen.

The bike shop guy mentioned that Bontrager may be a possibility.

141 is a size, bontrager do one in 29 with a QR axle

    Mind blown!

141 is boost QR. I’ve seen it on some Treks.

any chance of finding another secondhand bike? Take the wheel, and break the rest for parts to sell?

I did consider that and I’ve looked but no joy, I got a very good deal, so nothing at a similar price, so I’m just gonna swallow the cost.

My Giant XTC, 2014 vintage, had a 141 rear hub. There must be a few about.

    Ignore. Not the right size.
